Why do you think the NBA audience has disappeared?
Because the refs never call traveling or double dribble anymore.

As a fair weather Pels fan, I did not stop watching the Pels this year because they suck
I stopped watching them because they straight up do not have any games that come on tv anymore. Obviously you have to pay extra for something to be able to watch them now but don’t care to figure out even what that something is. When they came on tv I recorded and watched the games regularly regardless of their record. Should just get rid of the team if their goal is to reach less people

This was based off of the data provided by Nielsen Ratings.
I’d like to get real ratings that factor in streaming, as others have said.
But the damn season is almost year round now. Preseason to finals is like 10 months. Drones on forever. People have so many other entertainment options now and there are no interesting stars to reel anyone in.
And yeah the style of play probably plays a role. But let’s face it. The middle class and white/asian/hispanic men, by and large, don’t gaf about NBA. It is what it is.

The NFL model is perfect, except for TNF
Not really. Games on Prime video, Peacock and now Netflix. Plus the early morning overseas games.
What will they do next to make the fan pay more?

Haven’t watched since Stockton to Malone ended.

To me it’s the same as the NFL now. It seems too predictable. Whoever has the ball last will win the game. The scoring just looks so easy a lot of times. Every team has a star QB and superstar WRS. And the ones who don’t are about to draft the next ones

The pendulum has swung. People were done qqith overpayed thugs getting shaved in your face for overpriced track meets, with no fundamentals.
It's theater now. No real basketball

The flopping, constant timeouts/commercials, fouls every 45 seconds, Stars not playing the majority of the games...
What's the point?

NBA and MLB have made it way too hard to watch your home team consistently. The dying regional sports network model and blackouts in the age of streaming have made things a giant pain.
YTTV doesn’t carry many RSNs and MLB is out of network only. Same for League pass. So trying to watch the pelicans or Astros becomes a big pain or almost impossible in-network. If both leagues did away with blackouts for their streaming products I bet viewership would stabilize.

wonder what the drop off was after BLM?
We had season tickets in club level for 11 years at Toyota center. Much rather go to a Rockets game than go see the Texans. When BLM hit and NBA took their stance we canceled season tickets. I also stopped watching. Don’t think I have watched an NBA game in over 6 years now. Not a single one. No playoffs or NBA championships. Used to be one of the things I looked forward to.
Cannot tell you how many times Rockets have called. Wanting us back, offering deals, etc. I am done with the NBA. Not another dime.

$25M a year players who take months off from playing because of a bruise or need a few games away to be "load managed."
There are too many games. Whole teams play uncompetitively because the game doesn't matter. A good team will lose to a bad team by 20+.
Celebrity driven. Not just the players but the broadcasts spend too much time on some rando with a single wearing sunglasses in sideline seats that a publicist put them in.
The product is boring. For 90% of the games you can skip the 1st 3 quarters of little defense and jacking up 3s from the logo and only watch the 4th quarter when sometimes they get competitive.
It takes too much effort to ignore the bullshite periphery of the game to enjoy the actual gameplay. I really don't care what their political stance or latest outrage is. I'm solely here to watch the game and escape from that stuff. People don't enjoy being constantly lectured.

As someone who watches the NBA, in my opinion it’s because there are no interesting players and teams anymore.
The Warriors used to be must see TV. And LeBron’s team, whether it was the Heat or Cavs, were a team people watched. There are no must see teams right now. Nobody cares about Jason Tatum and the Celtics or the Thunder.
And all of the interesting players are old. Curry, LeBron, Durant, Harden, Westbrook, etc… they’re all on their way out. Who are the new star players? I watch the NBA, and honestly it’s hard for me to think of the names of the new crop of “stars”.
That’s really what it is in my opinion. As a right-winger, it’s fun to think the NBA got too woke and now they’re paying the price, but I don’t really think that’s what it is. I think it’s just that the league doesn’t have any interesting new players or teams right now that captures people’s attention.

Political reasons aside, I think people just care less about watching pro teams that aren't their favorite teams. That and kids have way more say over what's on our TV than I EVER did in my parents' house.
I used to turn on whatever NBA or MLB game was on TV as background noise. Sundays the TV stayed on NFL the entire day.
Now I might watch the Saints or Pelicans, but I don't give half a shite what these other teams do.
