It's funny that he and I probably know each other because we both have extensive training and doctrine experience with SOCOM? It's a very tight knit community.

I wonder if this is the Charlie Keating's (of the S&L debacle infamy) grandson? I seem to remember his son being a swimmer, like this SEAL's father.

Edit:
Upon further investigation, he's definitely the grandson of Charlie Keating (The Keating Five). Also appears to be the cousin of the Olympic swimmer, Gary Hall, who won ten medals in three Olympic competitions.

Common sense.

A data source that's off limits to a lot of Obama hating cucks on here.

Common sense tells me things like: don't go down on strippers, don't text and drive, change the oil on my truck on a regular basis. It's never given me insight, however, as to how many Afghan Browns lay dead in the sand. What am I doing wrong?

It's amazing that we keep sending money, arms and our guys over there when this keeps happening. Sometimes I wonder if they don't just all deserve each other.

My nephew says there are a lot of good people over there. When are they going to show up and fight for themselves.

Might as well issue them some ARVN rifles.

It's also a very big community. He didn't state his age or exactly who he worked for under SOCOM. Your chances of knowing him are just as good as not knowing him.

Good point, but if he worked in doctrine/training/program Managment, chances are we know each other.

There is a Norwegian who fights with the Kurds and is well known on social media/reddit who reported something similar. He said that the forces to his right flank withdrew, so he (the Norwegian) went to their position to try and hold that flank. He managed to survive, but it sounds like he was in the same position that Keating was in.

edit: here's what he said

quote:

peshmerganor: Massive attack on our front. Nearly a dozen suicide vehicles have attacked us so far and more are on their way. Mortar rounds with chemicals are beeing used. Enemy have broken through the front. Our neighbouring unit have abandoned their posts and left our right flank open. I've run over to man their positions on my own. Can see the enemy crossing the ditch and coming around on my side and back. Not within a firing range yet, but soon, I hope...

LINK

His most recent update:
quote:

peshmerganor: Alive. Fighting have been going on for nearly 32 hours now. Still enemy fighters in the area who are putting up fierce resistance. We have suffered many casualties, including a US Navy SEAL operator. Fighting have taken place both at the frontline and inside a nearby town. We have killed more terrorists that I can count, including a group of 15 or more fighters this morning. More to come...

Be careful looking at this Instagram because there's some NSFW stuff there. His most recent photo shows a dead body, presumably ISIS.

I used SF as a blanket term. I should've clarified that they shouldn't be using SEAL as independent advisors. I'm aware of the Green Beret role, this is right in their wheel house.

There is a difference b/w Special Forces and Special Operations.

Too late. Those went to the communists in Nicaragua an El Salvador.

RIP to Mr. Keating. ISIS shot their bolt with that offensive. In a few months, the Kurds will make gains.

Specialized niche. I worked on the USSOCOM CASEVAC Program in development and training. My background is with the med assets of various components. Spent most of my time with PJ's and 18D's, a little with Unit guys and less with SEAL Corpsmen. Operational time was all with OGA's before that.

What I gathered from his account is that there is so much fighting and conflict we are not aware of. Our media isn't reporting very much of it...wonder why that is...

Frankly, most Americans don't care enough to follow every little development in this war. Plus we have elections going on right now, and that dominates much of the news. But you are absolutely right, most Americans have no clue what's happening in Syria and Iraq.

This subreddit is very good for following what's happening in Syria and Iraq: LINK You can get hour-by-hour updates on battles for villages there, plus information about all the different factions. People from various countries, cultures, and political affiliations post there. It's also fairly well moderated to keep everyone civil, prevent blatant propaganda, and avoid the glorification of death/violence.

Here's a video allegedly showing Navy SEALs participating in the clashes near Mosul. You can hear one American saying, "No video, no video," early on, but the person with the camera keeps recording.

The video is not particularly interesting besides the fact that it shows Americans fighting alongside Kurds near Mosul.
