I don't know why anyone would brag about that

It may help future presidential aspirations or admission to elite Ivy League colleges.

My alcoholism tells me I’m part Native American

Grandma was full of shite.
Maybe. Depending on which half of the genetics get passed on to each generation, It's conceivable that all the genetic markers could be gone after just a few generations, particularly when the line has multiple sexes. I specifically say that because I would think the mitochondrial DNA of a straight female line would contain the markers and I would assume a direct male line would show markers on the X chromosome.
But I am not a geneticist so my reasoning may be flawed, I wouldn't mind some insight from an OT genetic expert on this.

So that they can have the cool kind of alcoholism, not the bad super racist Irish white kind of alcoholism.

why wouldn't you just correct them?

Because it’s cool to be the minority. The only people on the planet that can’t be proud or not even proud but maybe not ashamed is the white man. We are the most dominant species on the planet and when your at the top haters come with it.
There’s a reason every year movies, books, documentaries.... are made about the first women this or the first black that. Can’t even watch commercials with something referencing first to accomplish. Ex. Dos Equis.
It would be hard to make the “first white” movies because it would consist about everything the human world knows.

The 1% Middle Eastern is probably just statistical noise. I've done both 23andMe and Ancestry.com and visit the Anthrogenica forums fairly regularly on slow days at work.
23andMe is better because they push out updates and refinements to your results way more often than Ancestry and they don't try to lump shite into regions just to make it look nice. They have 'Broadly' categories and you can also alter your results at 50% up to 90% confidence level.

Honors and benefits.
By the way, I was born in America, so I'm a native American.

I had my DNA tested...it was 91% British Isles and Scandinavian, 8% German and .001 percent Asian.
So I identify as a Native American CaucAsian male.

Also, if anything, many Southern families might have legends of Native American ancestry to cover up known African American ancestry. What I have seen a lot in forums is that many Southerners score some low amounts of Sub-Saharan Africa.
On 23andMe, at 50% (speculative confidence), I am 0.2% Angolan & Congolese and 0.2% Senegambian & Guinean. At 90% confidence level, I'm still 0.2% Senegambian & Guinean and 0.2% Broadly Sub-Saharan African. So I am most assuredly 0.4% African in DNA. Also have 0.2% North African at 50% confidence.

Think about how much more Southerners encountered black slaves than they did Native Americans. Yep you're probably part black.

This is actually a pretty interesting topic, especially considering that Cherokees married outside the tribe so rampantly that many likely weren't "full-blooded" even in the late 1800's
Here are a couple of links that offer some insight, though they aren't unbiased sources:
Why do so many Americans Think They are Cherokee?
No, You are Not Part Cherokee

Genealogy.com says my DNA is 1% East Asian, but that is so low that it might have shown up at random. You think? If I have any East Asian ancestry then I do not know where it came from and I have been researching my family for over 40 years.
The rest is British, Irish (explains my insobriety), German (explains my belligerence), and Portuguese (makes me want to hang out on a beach wearing a Speedo and gold chain necklace with a crucifix).
There was a family legend that an Indian chief was in our family tree, but I found that to be false pretty early on. If it had been true then instead of having children I would have had a vasectomy.

I just have no idea how it got there. I have genealogical records going back to the 1640's and 1670's on both sides, but not fully fleshed out. I'm guessing it's a wee bit of Hebrew, if it's real at all. Don't think there were any Azerbaijanis coming to Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama back in the day.
