I paid $4.05 the other day, the most I have ever paid for gas. Don't like it.

But then, I think I would like Iran having a nuclear weapon, especially now that they have demonstrated a better than previously known ballistic capability, even less.

Did you never fill up from May-July of 2022?

I paid $4.99/gal for non-ethanol boat gas the other day (not on the water) here in Pell City. This is not what I voted for and Trump owns it 100%. I hope it turns around soon or the GOP is going to get destroyed in the midterms.

Diesel and gas both went up 50 cents a gallon here after lunch today. It was lowest it had been in a few weeks until today

Man I dont care about politicians taking victory laps over gas dropping half a damn cent. HALF A CENT. People in that thread acting like we’re supposed to throw a parade because the average went from getting punched in the face to slightly less punched in the face. I filled up this week and still sat there staring at the pump like “you gotta be fricking kidding me.” Thats the part normal people care about. Not graphs. Not spin. Not partisan chest pounding. Just whether it costs damn near a hundred bucks to drive to work for the week.

And thats what always gets lost in these discussions. Regular people dont experience the economy through charts on CNBC. They experience it standing at the pump, buying groceries, looking at their Entergy bill, and realizing every little thing costs more then it used too. When diesel goes up it affects EVERYTHING because trucks move everything in this country. Food. Construction material. Amazon packages. Literally all of it. So even if prices “only” move a little bit week to week, people still feel like they’re drowning because the baseline is already too damn high. People arent mad because gas went up twelve cents one week. Theyre mad because theyve been getting slowly bled dry for fricking years now.

Hell for some people it basically costs a full damn day of work every week just to commute back and forth. Think about how fricking insane that is for a second. You work an entire shift basically JUST to keep enough gas in the tank so you can continue going to work in the first place. Thats not “the economy is booming.” Thats survival mode. Especially if you got a truck, longer commute, kids to drive around, or you live out in the suburbs where everything is spread apart. You start doing mental math every time you turn the key. “Can I afford to run errands today?” “Do I really need to make that trip?” Thats a shitty way to live in what’s supposed to be the richest country on earth. And people are fricking exhausted from it.

And honestly thats why so many Americans are frustrated with both parties right now. One side spikes the football over microscopic decreases while the other side acts like the president controls every penny at the gas station sign out front. Reality is global oil markets, refinery capacity, wars, seasonal demand, all that stuff matters too. But regular people dont wanna hear a damn economics lecture when theyre paying $4+ a gallon. They just want relief. Thats it. They want to be able to take their kids somewhere without mentally calculating whether they should skip eating out later that week to make up for it. Thats where the anger comes from. Not politics. Real life fricking stress.

The funniest part of that thread is everybody immediately turning it into a political loyalty test instead of admitting the obvious truth: high gas prices suck no matter who is president. If Trump’s in office and prices are high, people are gonna complain. If Biden’s in office and prices are high, people are gonna complain. Thats how this works. Nobody pulls up to the pump and goes “well technically the refining and distribution component combined with geopolitical instability explains this.” Nah. They just get pissed off because theyre watching money disappear in real time. And the second people start venting about it somebody always jumps in acting like you’re supposed to be grateful because prices are down twenty fricking cents from last month.

And its not just the gas either. Thats what makes people so damn aggravated right now. Gas is just the thing you SEE constantly because the numbers are glowing ten feet high on every street corner. But then you walk into the grocery store and groceries are still ridiculous. Insurance keeps climbing. Rent keeps climbing. Fast food somehow costs as much as a sit down restaurant used too. So people arent reacting emotionally over one tank of gas. Theyre reacting to the fact that EVERYTHING feels expensive at the exact same time and theres no break from it. Every damn bill feels like another fricking ambush.

And before somebody says “well prices are projected to come down later this year,” cool. Great. Awesome. I need them down NOW. Not in six months. Not after another war scare. Not after hurricane season wrecks refinery production in the Gulf again. Right now. Cause for alot of working people this stuff isnt abstract politics anymore. Its the difference between having breathing room financially or feeling like every damn paycheck is already spent before it even hits the account. Thats why these threads always get emotional. People are tired man. They’re tired of hearing how strong the economy supposedly is while it costs half a paycheck just to fricking exist.

They said we no longer rely on foreign oil but when foreign oil relies on us we pay more. They are now allowing China to send tankers to buy our oil. Why dont they turn them around and add some supply to our market? I guess Trump never refilled the strategic reserve that Biden siphoned away. They used to release oil out of it to help with pricing.
