Wow color me surprised. I have found that many of the Vets how fought there are never very chatty about their experience. The experience was horrible and we as a country should be ashamed the way they were treated when they returned. They wee heroes who did not choose the circumstances, they just did what they were told to do.
For full disclosure, I did not go to Vietnam. My lottery number was 364. I did know a lot who went there and never came back the same. The people who wrongly claim and try to steal these heroes valor (whether you support the war or not) have a special place in hell reserved for them. End of Rant.

My Dad was a flight surgeon in the AF during Vietnam. Basically he gave physicals to pilots. He never went east of Germany. Technically he is a Vietnam vet but he would never call himself that and he doesn't stand up when they honor them.

I think anyone who saw combat in Vietnam would be disgusted that someone who was not there was conflating his service with the war.
If this guy did serve, all he had to say was "veteran". Instead, he was dishonest as he was with these kids.
