NASA has become a joke - the best and brigthest no longer work there and the great engineers they do have are leaving to the private sector.
You do realize that NASA's funding was gutted by Obama and hasn't been fully funded like it used to be.

The argument is that private enterprise should be in the lead not the U.S. government and its bloated red tape.

Yes, that was the plan. Maybe a good thing, but at what cost due to lost of time in the space program.

That devalues astronauts, don’t you think? First, everything has always been built commercially. Second, there was NEVER a price put on an astronaut...they are national treasures and if it takes 2200 engineers to do the damn paperwork and built and external tank...well that’s what it costs.
Now, lowest bidder always built the rockets...NASA held safety over them at a cost-plus relationship (expensive)...how far can you relax that? What happens if they die today? Does Elon pay the price?

Gotta love the NASA bureaucrat trying to text his NASA astronaut buddies and get them to worry so he could “shut it down”

This launch is thanks to Trump's guy Jim Bridenstine at NASA. He's showed no qualms about lighting a fire under Elon's arse when necessary.

Hurley and Behnken are scheduled to launch at 4:33 p.m. EDT from launch pad 39A of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, which was also used for the Apollo and space shuttle programs.

Just spell it out or go home...

I think at least a few people remember the huge publicity given to "Teacher in space", and the camera following her parents' proud faces as the rocket blew up with so many children watching on TVs across this land. The still photo of her parents remains as memorable as the explosion. Images on google from the joy to the sorrow

I’ve been at Michoud, only as a contractor (cleaning HexCr), and you could eat off the floors.
I hope the same holds true at SpaceX assemblies.

You’re a retard. Brand new launch vehicle with a rocket that returns itself to a launch pad on ground, or a ship at sea, and we haven’t used an American rocket to shuttle astronauts since 2011. It doesn’t get much more bad arse than that. Stop trying to be cool, and edgy.

Yeah, this snuck up on me as well. This is gigantic. Most excited I’ve been to watch television since Tiger won the Masters.

Should be a bigger story than it is. But our 24/7 news channels today hate good news. I can’t wait!
Absolutely. This is a really historic event, and I am excited to witness it.

Decent chance this gets postponed due to weather.

You realize nasa was subbing shite out to private sector companies since before day 1 of Kennedy space center. Or is this where we ignore the hand Boeing, northup grumman, (mcdonnell) douglas, or lockheed martin had?

Hope not, but if so, I'm good.

Apollo 13 (the movie)...there were scenes where the Northup Grumman guy was stressing out because he couldn't 100% guarantee that the lunar module would hold up. I guess most people don't catch the "Grumman" reference in the movie.

In case you were wondering... NASA experienced budget cuts from Nixon, Reagan, and both Bushes. One stopped lunar exploration, reagan destroyed a us owned space station... and it's been suck soup ever since. But yeah, this Obama's fault for following W's shutdown order

First president in almost 50 years to do something meaningful for space travel. As much as I don't like him, I can still credit him with the credit he's absolutely due.
