EBR does need to deconsolidate. Should have been done years ago. Someone from Zachary, Central, or Baker should never be mayor of Baton Rouge just because they are President of the parish.

How can you be 65% minority?

New math

Minorities become the majority, but want the "advantages" minorities enjoy such as set asides, etc.

BR is roughly 50% black and 40% white per 2010 census. I don't know where the 65% comes from.

Negative...Border should be Florida Blvd. There are still sane people north of I12.

Let’s face the fact that the city of Orleans and Orleans Parish are combined into one consolidated government. There are no other cities in the parish of Orleans.

If they want to use New Orleans as a comparison, then split city of BR into its own parish (Baton Rouge Parish) so the city and parish government will be combined like Orleans. The rest of EBR can be St George Parish.

Did not New Orleans grow to "fill" Orleans Parish?

The city limits weren't always parish wide, right?

Can’t have that, it would be racist. The only advancement tolerated is for colored people. Us whiteys are supposed to be shameful and remorseful for our lack of color.

We didn’t have common core when I was growing up, but 65% was a majority, not a minority in the old math.

How much real estate value will disappear overnight in the City of BR if this happens?

Their Mayor-President is going to be pissed that they are trying to cut her authority. That will be an interesting fight.

None.

This is just a dumb move on the part of these idiotic "community leaders". It pretty much sums up the problem that plagues them constantly - short term gratification, but long term disaster. They want to have their chocolate city, but they're willing to give up their consolidated power of the CP govt to do so.

But, like others have said, it's pretty funny how the Together BR folks will sit idly by because they're terrified of being accused of racism by opposing the NAACP for doing the same thing they've railed against for 3 years.

Why is race a factor in this stuff? Isn’t trying to separate a majority black city from majority white cities essentially segregation?

It's what they want. Safe spaces were all about having a place away from whitey.

upgraded,

There is no way that a home or business in BR maintains its current value if the government flips overnight to a 65/35 black white makeup. The certainty of increased taxes alone will diminish their value. Without even considering all of the other implications.

They are only against it when the money leaves. If they separate in this case they get power but no money leaves. St. George separates and takes the tax base with it.

The Buddy seat debacle brought the true intentions out into the light. I mean we all knew what they wanted but it made it very clear for all to see with no backtracking afforded to them. Tara was smart enough to not side with the sinking ship.
