I’ll tell you this. All this SETI stuff where we’re actively listening and sending signals out? That stuff needs to end.

Anything that has the ability to A) receive our signals, B) Determine the source and C) Pay us a visit is not something I’m interested in every coming face to face with.

The only possible use we would be to something that advanced would either be food, labor, lab rats or pets. Hard pass.

Funny thing is the aliens that sent those signals died out a billion years ago.

i wish someone running for president suggests we have a binding referendum.

I am so against inviting attention from superior technology beings.

It's 500 million light years away.

We've been sending relatively high powered signals since the 1940s with the use of radar so the cat is already out of the bag and we're not going to stop flight control activities. Just listening is not an issue.

Don't answer...

This. We don't want them to know we're here. Ironically, this was the exact premise of Fox's new War of the Worlds series. We intercepted a signal from deep space and replied. The next thing you know, pissed off aliens are bombing us with meteors.

How about all the systems that are less than 50 light years away with rocky planets in the theorized “hospitable zone”?

All I’m saying is that if we’re going to have an encounter, I’d rather it not be a surprise visit from someone smart enough to follow the breadcrumbs and make the trip here.

Anything that meets those requirements probably wouldn't waste the energy to visit us anyway.

The amount of power required to propagate any kind of radio signal 500,000,000 light years is enormous and anything outside of a stellar object that could have managed that feat did so 500,000,000 years ago. We know so little about the natural universe that I'd place my bet on something not related to intelligent life here.
