I still say it is crazy we don't go after these scammers more. Sure 17,000 may not be worth the effort but this isn't their first rodeo. Find them and everyone associated with them.
Even if the OP was a troll, this kind of stuff is happening nonstop everyday.
A big one now is using AI real time videos to make elderly think they are actually talking to famous people. Then suck them in

Women are dumbasses in general when it comes to this stuff. No man under the age of 80 is falling for this scam. They just give their money to OF "models".

You are either posting something fake, or you married a fugitive.

They're overseas, and in a country that isn't friendly with the US. There's no way to get to them.

Why would someone give up 17k if they had nothing to hide.

Looks like they recently got a group in Canada
"According to the indictment returned by the grand jury Feb. 20 and unsealed on March 4, between the summer of 2021 and June 4, 2024, the defendants engaged in a “grandparent scam” involving phone calls made from call centers in and around Montreal, Québec. During these phone calls, defendants falsely claimed to be an elderly victim’s relative, typically a grandchild, who had been arrested following a car crash and needed money for “bail.” Other defendants posed as an “attorney” representing the elderly victim’s relative. Elderly victims were often told that there was a “gag order” in place to prevent the elderly victim from telling anyone about their family member’s supposed arrest. Elderly victims were convinced to provide bail money to an individual falsely posing as a bail bondsman, who would come to the elderly victim’s home to collect the money. This money was later transmitted to Canada following cash deliveries and financial transactions, sometimes involving cryptocurrency, which, the indictment alleges, obscured the source of the money and the identities of defendants."

How does a person with a functioning brain think that city hall's preferred method of payment is a bitcoin machine at Rouse's

They're not typically in places like that. You'd see way more stories like that if they were. Those are the stupid ones.

You're either trolling, or your wife is lying and possibly funding some side piece. Or she's got a gambling addiction.

Your wife?
It actually sounds like your wife's husband is being scammed. (For about 17,000).
I wonder what she needed that money for? or more likely who?

This.. Not to mention, you find out what judge issued the warrant and then call their office.
A warrant is simply a legal document informing you that you could be arrested (unless its a search warrant of course).. Like I mentioned, you either call the judges office or talk to a lawyer. And neither will ever keep you on the phone for several hours..
If I was morally able to scam people.. I would read this scam and think "this is a waste of time, no one is going to fall for this".. Yet.. here we are.
