Why?
Is it a finger food thing?
I have a friend (well I say he's a friend even though you guys all say no one likes me). Anyway we went out for some guy food (you know, food that guys normally eat that girls pass over) (not Passover, that's Jewish) but anyway, we were out and I wanted wings and my friend said he didn't eat wings. I asked him why and he said he didn't like food he ate with his fingers. So he got something else.
Have y'all ever had that happen?
ISWYDT and it's spot on

At least he joined the easiest of the Military Branches.

It is the Air Force, not Delta Force.

I don’t need any shitty advice or stupid comments from anyone,
This is the OT, you should know that isn't gonna happen. After you find out which unit he is in, you will probably be able to find a facebook group for his unit, where "mostly" Mothers of the recruits talk to each other. Some Military Bases also have message boards for each unit, so parents can communicate with each other and get updates on what type of training they're doing.

Air Force basic is only like 3 weeks long. He will be fine.

That includes weekend passes.

The way she’s reacting tells me that the son leaving may do them both some good.

When my son went off to college, I cried and was lost but looking back I realized it was best for both of us.

U.S. Army for 12 years here, 21B. Congrats on your son making the decision to serve. Albeit, the USAF is the easiest/weakest branch in the U.S. military, make sure he pays into the G.I. Bill so he can get his education mostly paid for. He should’ve gone in as an Officer and Commissioned through an ROTC program, but that’s obviously too late.
The G.I. Bill mostly paid for my degree at LSU where I majored in EE and minored in BADM. The Army served as a great catalyst to moving forward in pursuing a degree that translates into a great civilian job. I was better prepared to take on the rigors of engineering than an 18 year-old and the military gave me the discipline to do so.
Hopefully your son chose a technical MOS that translates well into the civilian world and wasn’t pressured by some recruiter.

Go to a support FB page for boot camp families. He’ll be fine.
