I guess that's my problem. I don't have an audience.

Advice -

Be proud of him. IMO he is doing the best - serving his country.

Millions of men and women have done thin. He will be fine.

Love him from a distance, but still love him in all things.

Pray for him and those around him. They will grow very close together and will rely on each other.

Write him letters. Solders love letters from home.

When he gets out of training (never while he is in basic or AIT) send him small packages of stuff (Cookies, candy, cake, savory treats) and tell him to share them, that you will send more. Sharing these things with his friends will make him a hero.

If you can, go to watch him graduate from Basic. If not, send him a letter and tell him you are proud of him for making it.

Never NEVER NEVER get involved in his military life, as in writing his CO a letter, or your congressman, or anything like that. You are his mom, but no civilian is his advocate.

Take every opportunity you can find to tell him you love him.

Always remember that anything he chooses to share with you is important to him. Act interested, even if you aren't.

Thank him for me for his service. He will be fine.

He made a choice to be a man and fight for those that he loves. He will be fine. Congrats on raising a warrior.

Advice on what? What to do with the oldest out of the nest? If that's it, your son is serving his country; support that and let him find his own way.

After the crying is finished, pat yourself on the back. You raised a responsible son to adulthood and now it is time for him to launch. Never easy for a Mom, but you should be proud knowing that you did your job.

Relax, woman. It’s not like he joined the Army or Marines.

I would expect him to come back fatter and with regret when someone mistakenly says “ohhhh you’re a soldier!?”

Congrats on raising a functioning kid with a job and a purpose. Looking at most of the others his age must make you proud.

Can you post a video of you dancing to Let's Groove, by Earth, Wind, and Fire? TIA.

Well that’s in the running for the most fricked up assertion in this thread. Congrats.

Be proud. Thank him for protecting my family.

My single biggest regret in life is not serving my country. What he's doing takes a level of pride, maturity and courage that you likely taught him. Great job, Mom

Your kid joined the easiest branch of the military and the odds of him ever being in any serious danger are almost nil. Thousands of kids do this every week. It’s not a big deal.

Relax man i was your sons age when i joined the air force. The Air Force for the most part is like a regular real world job.Good hours and none of the other BS like the other branches. The other branches hate the air force people because they weren't smart enough to get in it
I sat at a desk doing accounting for 4 1/2 years so not much to worry about there. I then used the GI bill to go to college. My one regret now is not doing the 20 years and getting paid for the rest of my life

He is going to sit on arse while wearing a uniform. I do not see a knock on the door from two guys in dress uniforms in your future. Unless his chair breaks and he dies of severe burns from the latte that spills on him.

Hope this helps.
