Actually a CSB.. I'd suggest setting him up against a more advanced player and see how he fares, nothing too special but just make sure you and the guy banging your daughter don't just suck at chess.. From there make sure he enjoys the game, and build

Chess is great skill to have because it keeps the brain sharp, it also suggests that strategy may be the key to success

Wow thats so weird to consider it that way. Its like people who overuse "we" and "us" when talking about sports teams. But way worse because youre associating a high school with yourself rather than a sports team.

Don't let them f with you. Thal also predicts mathematical knowledge pretty well. Might way to get him on a musical instrument as well. It all goes together.

ETA. Not a typical BS response for this forum. Chess, math and music go together. Get him help in all areas you can afford.

He's probably gay or a weirdo, sorry for the failure in producing offspring!

Lol, just kidding, have him tested and if he is brilliant teach him something useful not a game!

He plays football. I am the HC of his team the last two years. He is an all star baseball player. This is why I am surprised about this Chess situation.

My daughter is a senior. Her BF is a freshman in college.

And yes, I have a 10 year old. I also have a 14 year old and a 5 year old.

Dude, you could not be any farther from reality. I was a very good baseball and football player and have coached middle school football for 24 years. I retired from that community coaching position to be able to coach his teams the last two years. He is an above average athlete for his age.

Children at that age are often quite good at chess because they haven't developed patterns of thought that might limit their perception of possibilities.

Sounds like he could reach master level with some training.

I said "our" because I have been a middle school coach there for years.

He is advanced in math for sure. He has not shown interest in playing music though.

agree. Nudge him, don't push, to explore how far he wants to go. There have been plenty of child/teen Grandmasters before. It is possible.

Ya but have there been any that weren't pushed and spent less than a minimum of 4 hours a day playing?

I've never really played chess before but i understand what moves where and how.
We were at a friend of mines father in laws vacation home. We were about 22 at the time. FIL is filthy rich and was telling us about the expensive arse chess piece he had. I started playing my friend and i kicked his arse twice. Next day i try to get him to play and he finally agrees to. FIL stands over his shoulder the whole time helping him out. It got to the point where i got put in check a few times but got out of it. FIL eventually told my friend to get up so he could play and I ended up winning. That man has not liked me ever since that day. He was cocky about being aggressive and having me in check many times, telling me different strategies he knows and all. I think he was fine with losing until I told him that the day before was the first time i had ever played chess.

Long story short, i'm a chess genius too.
