Apparently the OT does not believe in the existence of daughters.
I was thinking this but then thought maybe the OT has respect for the poster and to fight the urge to "ask for pics" they act like he said son
Per my experience in car sales, Do Not get a before 2012 Ford Escape. Get her a mid 2000s CRV and you will both be happy..

Do yourself a favor and write that down, then read it a few times...

This. You should have no problem getting a safe, reliable vehicle under $5,000.

F= found. (Ok)
O= on (ok)
R= side ( don’t think so)
D= of the road ( for Christ’s sake)
The correct answer we were looking for is
“ what is Found on(off) road dead.

Make em drive something shitty...or go in half on a decent car/truck and make them get a job and make payments to you

If he wants a better car let him buy it.
Until then let him drive whatever you give him.

I was always fond of "fricker Only Runs Downhill."
But to answer the OP, Ford Escapes are cheap. I bought one recently that had a whole host of issues. The back glass latch fell off, the windshield leaked, sunroof motor broke, and sunroof leaked, and a few other quality issues. It ran fine though. But for a first time car that will likely be wrecked soon, you could do worse.

Definitely having her contribute some of not all towards insurance. She's 17 so hopefully insurance will drop a little in 9 months when she turns 18.

It looks like 01-05 era xterras are pretty good deals too. I think I might feel a bit better about a Nissan with over 100k miles on it than Ford.

I went thru this with my daughter 5 years ago. It was impossible to find a good used car for 5k. I ended up paying 8k for a 2009 Ford Fusion. Never an issue.

Get a Camry with 50,000-70,000 miles on it. You'll spend a little more than you are talking right now, but they can be had for 8k. Hell, ill sell you my 2012 with 76 on it for 5, although it's a little beat up. haha. I sold my last camry, 2009 with ~115,000, for 5k and I never experienced a single issue with it. Im sure it is still running fine.
