Wait.. You are in New Orleans.. And you think Baton Rouge will get it worse? Do you know how hurricanes work?
All hurricanes are different of course, but Gustav was much worse for BR than Nola.

what's up with this current "business model" of primary care physicians converting their practices into high volume assembly line type operations staffed with PAs? never see the doc anymore, I know the PAs are trained medical professionals but what are the odds of them mis-diagnosing? mis-reading labs, or maybe just missing more things in general than the doc? does the doc ever check their work?

Baton Rouge getting Cat 1 winds instead of our normal TS force winds will cause some damage. New Orleans might be under water. People spend way too much time looking at the stupid "cone" maps.
Yep

I don’t want to talk bad about any medical worker, but I put them at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to prescribers.

Really, the reason behind it all is to try and maximize what they can bring in by increasing pt numbers. I have always attributed this to abhorrent insurance payment rates, but everyone has their own reasons.
Hope that gives an idea. Just my opinion. Again, we do not have PAs in our hospital, and I work solely in the ER.

I hated straight clinic work.
Then again, that is 80% of ER patients.
To give you an idea of my thoughts on PAs, one recently told my sister that you couldn’t diagnose a pneumonia on x-ray and prescribed her clarithromycin, an antibiotic I can’t recall ever prescribing.

funny you should mention that, I went to see my doc(PA,) recently due to a post procedure pain that I didn't think was related to the procedure but was a pretty severe pain, he takes a very brief look at the results of the procedure and says "how about a couple of antibiotics?" and I said "for...?" you've got xxx, you've always had it and you will have it periodically for the rest of your life, I told him I'd never had those symptoms before and he assured me I had but just didn't recognize them

If they live on campus they should stay. The dorms are damn near bomb shelters, LSU has its own power grid, and all electricity lines are underground. If off campus, leaving is best.

Of course not all Dr.’s know what they are doing in ER too. Like the one that ended my Dad’s life. He presented with 3 months history of chasing respiratory infection upper to lower and back and forth, along with years long history of COPD, a-fib, congestive heart failure. She prescribed antibiotics without any CXR nor CT. He died within 24 hours when the lungs filled with fluids from the dying bacteria.
Kinda like NFL 1st round picks. Only every so often is one a Hall of Famer. Many more are closer to Ryan Leaf than Peyton Manning.

It is a problem.
People believe that, if you didn’t get any medications, then the medical professional didn’t do anything for you.

If I was a student at LSU and my folks lived in New Orleans, I’d go home for this one.

I live near campus; shite hits the fan I'm walking to PMAC

He should have stayed. It’ll be way more fun getting drunk and riding it out with friends at LSU

I don’t think you’ll be too safe standing outside a locked PMAC.

Not sure. My kid is at LSU but lives at home here in BR. I’m no help …we are staying in BR though

sad state of the profession, at least at that level, I recently switched to this clinic because my previous pcp had gone this route with his practice, I really liked him and he tried to see me if he knew I was in, even gave me his cell number, his staff just ran too much interference for him to keep everything moving I guess, I've got one more round of labs coming up in a few weeks and I intend to address this with them and start shopping around if I have to
