The other night my American Eskimo (13) started falling to one side. We took him to the vet and everything checked out and labs came back fine. Still concerned because he's definitely acting odd and couldn't go down the deck steps. Possibly may be inner ear infection, treating with antibiotics. Anyone ever deal with this? It's really sad to see and not know what exactly is wrong.

It's weird that the vet couldn't find anything wrong though.
Could be he's just getting old and losing it. What's the average life span for that kind of dog?

He just got shaved down yesterday. I haven't seen anything, but will look. Vet said he didn't see anything in ear, but I have thought maybe something got in there.

My 15 year old Husky mix started doing something similar a few months ago. Bloodwork was mostly fine initially. Thought she had a stroke. Ended up being encephalitis from an abscess in her liver that wasn't showing up in the original labs. Had to put her down. Very tough and very sad to watch her struggle to stand up and then just finally give up and just lay there.

Shouldn't you be more concerned about your American Eskimo?

In all seriousness my lab <<< get the WORST ear infections. Never had the issue of falling over but his ears will puss up from time to time. We have to bring him to the vet to clean them out and give him a steroid shot to clear them out.

Stop drinking with him.

Your dog doesn't have the same tolerance that you have, plus he's a lot lighter.

I forget exactly what it's called... vestibular disease maybe? We had the same thing with our 14 year old mix. Fell over, soiled himself, etc... we thought it was the end then and there. We took him to the vet and she gave him a nausea injection. I think we ended up giving him Dramamine and nausea pills as well that we got from the vet. He recovered over a couple days and was normal again for a few more months, and then had another few similar episodes. We ended up having to put him down. He couldn't walk a foot without falling or badly stumbling.

Mine had these symptoms about a year ago. Considering her age a figured she was having a stroke. Now I just think it was vestibular disorder. She didn't eat for a couple of days.

She showed signs of improvement around 3 days. Despite being old as shite she's normal now.

Our dog, also 13 years old, was doing the same thing. Vet says it’s due to an enlarged heart/heart failure and put him on meds.

Try another vet. May be vestibular disease. Does he akways turn or fall in one direction. Our vet diagnosed our 15 year old dog by holding hjs snout and tracking his eyes. Gave him a couple of shots and told us to give it a week. Old dog got better and is now 16 and no reoccurance in a year. Don't jump the gun in deciding to put him down
