It all depends on the luck of the draw with adjusters. I have flooded twice. One adjuster pinched pennies and the other one gave us 20K more than we needed to make us whole (did our own work). My only advice is to claim anything water touched even if it dosen't have any use to you. Make them decline paying for it.

Like I said, there is a ton of weird and conflicting stuff going around right now.

It is a common request. There are reasons behind it and I have seen them. Once a policyholder had his cabinets removed and placed in the garage for inspection while the house was being gutted. The policyholder went in great detail explain how they were custom made sunken cypress wood cabinets. They indeed were and replacement was 3 x's more than traditional cabinets. Unfortunately the cabinets didn't fit in the kitchen but fit perfectly in his neighbors kitchen.
Unfortunately, you should wait. Perhaps the adjuster will come out a take photos and do a quick scope which will allow you to start demolishing before he gets out to do the elevations, measurements and detailed estimating. Don't be a jerk and the adjusters will generally be very reasonable. They take no delight in making people mad and saying no.

FYI, all digital photos retain a time and date automatically. If you right click on the file and select properties it will give you the info
Ya and you can change the date on your computer to whatever day and time you want, upload the picture to your computer, screenshot the picture and bam you have a new digital photo showing any day and time you want. You may also be able to just change the day and time on the camera but I don't know, either way it is so easy to make a photo show anything you want in the properties.

Let's think about this for a second........ Insurance companies are in the business to make money. They along with attorneys have made the deck stacked in their favor. They would just as soon leave you with a mold infested house as to look at you just as long as they don't have to give up any of that money.
frick insurance companies and their hired attorneys.

And tell him to confirm that thought via email. Then tear them out. Verbal always comes back to bite.

Clean it all up, document all damage with plenty of pictures, and have a detailed itemized report of the damage for the adjuster when he/ she shows up. Once you do this, you've done their job. They will thank you for doing their job, insert your information into their system, and go on to the next structure for their "assessment" that is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

You think companies should be writing blank checks for whatever the homeowner feels to rip out and replace on companies dime without due inspection of damage?

I could understand if this disaster was isolated and the adjuster could be there in a day or two....but no time frame for him to show up.
The adjuster is meeting him (my brother) there tomorrow at 11:00.

And yet it makes no difference to the adjuster as it isn't their money. Just be kind and do as they say and they will provide as much help as the policy allows. Its really that simple.

Exactly adjuster is just following protocol.
Most think of insurance companies as big money hoarding rip offs. The big successful insurance companies average about a 2% profit margin. If you were running that line you'd have the adjusters verify everything as well.
At everyone as said, document until you're sick of it, then do it all again.

We have more rain coming if we don't gut the houses now then you might as well just bulldoze everything

Of course they are but the only time you will catch a break is during a disaster because if they eff you over it could make the news and cost them business.

When I went through this for Katrina, the adjuster went through and "averaged" the quality of my furnishings throughout the house. If you have something you think is worth more than the average "grade" of your other stuff, you should leave a sample so they can grade it separately. That was my understanding from 10 years ago, I assume it's the same now.
NFIP makes the rules here and your adjuster/ carrier has every reason to rule in your favor within the law.

Seriously? Every house in NOLA wasn't touched or opened for more than 6 weeks because we weren't allowed back. I'm guessing you're being dramatic though I admittedly didn't read the post you were responding to.

I understand to an extent.
But in the last 38 years the state of LA has seen over 17 billion in claims payouts from flood policies alone. The next closest state is TX at 6 billion.
Our whole state is a flood plain. And if it wasn't for flood insurance we'd have half of the lower part of the state essentially be inhabitable.
Let them do their job.

there is so much conflicting information going around right now that it is hard to know who to believe.
How sad a statement that is. It's like it's the first rodeo or something for any insurance company that doesn't have set guidelines on what to do in these type situations.
"Word of mouth" info shouldn't even be in the conversation here.

Reason is if you remove them they can't pay you for removal. Let those dudes get in there and they'll write you a check for removal
Posted on 8/20/16 at 9:31 am to Quatre Pot
The adjuster is going use estimating software to remove and replace damged items. If you and your friends did the work, you are still going to get paid by the flood policy to remove the stuff
