My father has been extremely lucky.
He is 95 yrs old and had 3 heart valves put in over the years.
Sad part he is good shape, eats right, and exercises daily. He will probably outlast me.

Man has some outstanding DNA.
Of course Mom and my Dad had small heart attacks, They lived thru them with little trouble. Cancer took both of them.
On a side note. I been fighting heart failure going on 9 years. All from a virus infection. As to what, doctors never figured that out. Every day is a new day,
Problem, it sucks the big one due to I never know what kind of day I will have the next day.
Also, I can NEVER make plans.
Just about gave up driving, and if I have to go out of town, I have to have the wife to drive.
So, that made me give up fishing down south and offshore fishing too!
Got to have a phone at my side 100% of the time. Blacking out happens two three times a week when I try to go for a walk. My dog, he stays at my side and many times he has licked me in the face till I wake up. Guess dogs know.
But really, after many test, everything is very clear. Problem, my left side of my heart just don't work. Been seeing a heart transplant team 7 years. They wanted to put a LVD in, but turned it down 4 times. Hey, I'm 61 and I feel the Good Lord has more plans for me in this life I live,

I didn't realize it had been that long, fish. I remember when you first got diagnosed and posted here about it.

Just curious, are there preventative checks for a poor heart?
I'm in my 50s and I never go to the doctor.
Probably should get checked out.

I just got bloodwork, Baseline EKG, stress test, and calcium CT scan. My father and father in law just had heart attacks in the past month. My dad didn’t make it. My father in law is doing well.
Best of luck to those of you with heart problems. If it’s in the family genes or you have a lifestyle that puts you at risk, make changes and see a cardiologist.

My Dad had triple bypass 6 months ago. His doctor caught the widow maker before anything bad happened. He took a stress test and at the 8 minute mark felt like he was going to puke. A day later he was in the hospital and 2 days after that he was on the table. Says he feels so much better with more energy.

Eating a diet that is low in salt, refined sugars, total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol and high in fresh fruits and vegetables
Salt doesn’t cause heart issues but people that have blood pressure issues can be salt sensitive from what I understand
Sugar is bad for you, like really really bad
Fats and cholesterol are complicated, as we are learning what we were told about fats in the middle of the last century was wrong.Your body needs more cholesterol in a day to function than you can eat. Most people’s bodies regulate production based on what’s consumed but that’s not the case for everyone. Keeping your “good fats” high is important for heart health. Cardio is also good for lowering cholesterol.
Stay away from processed carbs, anything that comes in a box or a bag is terrible for you

Did she mention if there seemed to be a pattern or cause for all the younger folks having heartattacks?
I'm no doc, but my guess would be a combination of bad diet, stress and a sedentary lifestyle. That combination is pretty much epedimic in this country.

Left anterior descending artery...
Technically it is the left main coronary prior to the left circumflex coming off, but we just say proximal LAD lesion.
I am a similar age and I see people younger than me coming in dead or having an MI all the time. Sobering for sure.

How good is a stress test in determining any blockage?

God Bless you and your family. Just hope this was a warning that you guys can learn from. Family, If just means more!
All this crap we argue about on The Rant doesnt amount to a hill of beans compared to family. Take care of them and they will take care of you.
Hope it all gets better!

If you have significant disease, a nuclear stress test will be positive about 90% of the time.
