This happened to my dad about 2 months ago now. We were on a weekend trip with my wife and son and my parents and we were just wading out into the gulf. When we got back on the sand he started having chest pains so we called 911. His widow maker artery was 100% blocked.

It was a very harsh reality that life can be taken from you or loved ones at any given second. One second me and my dad were in the Gulf talking about the first weekend of college football game, the next second he was being rushed to a hospital in Alabama with a heart attack.

I'm 32 and he is 61. That event really made me start appreciating life more. I stopped taking things for such granted. My outlook on life completely changed.

Best of luck to your dad on his road to recovery.

And know that this type stuff is genetic. My dad died of a massive heart attack at age 35 right in front of me and my two sisters. I was the oldest at 8 and my sisters were 6 and 4 at the time.

My day had 5 brothers and all but one of them died before hitting age 60 with heart disease and his 3 sisters all died of cancer before age 60.

I have to take medication for cholesterol and high blood pressure even though I keep in decent shape and am active in my lifestyle and try to eat a decent diet.

Some things are not in your control, so be aware of that and don't be afraid to get checked out yourself.

Glad to hear your dad should be fine, and hopefully it will be a wakeup call for him to change a few things in his life.

Sorry to hear about this, but very glad your dad seems to be doing ok. I lost my dad to a massive heart attack while in his mid '30s. you'll need to get yourself checked out, because heart problems are hereditary. also will probably want to get used to doing some exercise and eating right while you are young.

ETA: if you smoke, throw that shite away right now and never pick up another one... seriously, this is your only chance.

I have two stents in the widow maker. I was very fortunate. 70% and 99% blockage.

I hope your dad has a speedy recovery.

shite dude. Prayers sent. 46 is pretty young, but I don't know your family history. Bright side: you're young enough so that you can start taking care of yourself now, so that you avoid the same fate.

I'm 36. I've had an EKG and done a stress test. All came out okay. My cholesterol is a little high, but nothing my dr is too worried about.

My dad has had 4 heart attacks I believe.

My dad was as healthy as they come. Dieted, worked out, had plenty of reasons to live and was just a generally good person. Had a major heart attack at 52. From start to finish maybe took 3 minutes and that was it. Live life like it’s your last day, hope your dad makes a full recovery!

My father had a widow maker heart attack several years ago but pulled through. He had to get zapped twice- once on the floor at home when the EMT’s arrived, and again at the ER. He was in a coma for two and a half days. When he woke up he said he don’t remember anything- the last thing he remembered was kicking back in his recliner to take a nap, then waking up in the hospital. Never had any trouble before that. Never had a surgery in his life or had been in the hospital for anything. Good luck to y’all.
