I would assume documentation went home stating that peanuts are not allowed in school because of allergy concerns. If not, you have a right to be frustrated.

Some kids are deathly allergic to peanuts to the point where even being in the same room with peanuts can cause a reaction. I don't think it's extreme. I think it should have been clearly communicated to the parents that the students were not allowed to bring peanuts to school, and if the student still does so then thats on the parents.

You are showing your ignorance of the subject here. Kids with severe allergies don't have to touch or eat a raw peanut to have a severe reaction. It could be a peanut butter cookie or something cooked with peanut oil even.
And no my kid isn't allergic to peanuts.

I don't have school age children, but I know that peanuts are not allowed at schools where students may have peanut allergies. Do I think it's stupid in the scope of things? Yes, nobody ever had peanut allergies when I was in school. Fact of the matter is, they can be as dangerous as a knife or gun, people can and have died.If my daughter knew the rules and didn't follow them, shame on her, she'll have to face the consequences. Rules are rules for a reason, and at school age, you shouldn't be challenging them.

Just the dust particles can get in the air and breathed in causing a reaction. The oil from the nuts can be spread from the hand to other objects. Once the allergic student touches that object, it is transferred

So does this mean people with peanut allergies can't go anywhere they may come into contact with peanuts or peanut dust.

Is this peanut thing new? It was never a problem when I was in school in the 80s to mid 90s. Never heard of an epidemic of death due to my pb&j sandwiches and the peanut M&Ms they sold at consessions.

It's reasonable to have the opinion that you don't think the entire school should be peanut free because of one kids allergies.
However, it's very clear that you don't know the first thing about food allergies. Your opinion is based on ignorance.

My five year old daughter is deathly allergic to peanuts. We found that out when she was 1 and her grandma gave her a taste of peanut butter. Scary rush to the ER. We keep an epipen with us at all times.
Her school, upon learning during registration that a child has a peanut allergy, notifies all parents of children in the class that peanuts products are not to be packed into lunches. But suspension is not a recourse for making the mistake , nor should it be. Fortunately, my daughter asks on her own if anything she is not familiar with has peanuts

first off I would talk sensibly with the principal and inform him/her that you/wife put the peanuts in her/her booksack.
Second, if my child wasn't reinstated immediately, I would get in touch with the local school board member and the super. I would also inform the principal that legal action will be taking place.
Pretty simple.
Then I would make sure the child ate a PB&J sandwich the next day at school.
But that's just me....
