It's a scam. They prey on people who are scared of the consequences and will pay them. They aren't going to tell the wife because then the prostitute will get in trouble with the authorities. This stuff happens all the time on Facebook, snapchat etc. Tell him just to ignore it or tell the woman he's contacted the FBI on the matter
