First - It’s all so deniable. He should delete everything from his phone, then tell his wife about the random blackmail notices he’s getting. Ignore the whore, and if she exposes all, his wife is already set up to believe it’s a phishing attack.
Second - Why is he worried what his wife thinks. He could always tell her he’s trying to get laid since she’s only done it twice in five years. Why in the hell would anyone care what his wife thinks if she doesn’t have sex with him?

I can see why avoiding police involvement would be advisable here. Guy would have to walk them through the whole thing, i.e. how and why they came into contact in the first place, etc. Which would solicit questions from the laws that could potentially land him a solicitation of prostitution charge. Could guy possibly be selective about what he told the laws, sure, but it's too risky in that once they looked at his phone, they'd at a minimum surmise that he's not been completely forthcoming.
