Maybe ask your wife’s boyfriend to teach him.

Failed parenting
Could be but maybe not. We take things for granted that we as kids had interest in without being told. Opening car hoods, tinkering on cars, etc as a kid came natural to many of us as kids. We just jumped in and did it without asking many questions.
Kids today have no desire to do much that requires hands on work

Congrats on failing as a father to teach him.
I’m 31 and I bought a 1972 Chevy for my first truck for 900 bucks. Rebuilt the engine at 15 years old to get it running right by the time I got my license at 16.

I’ve never had any desire to work on/tinker with my vehicle. Nothing to do with not wanting to work, I think it’s moreso that younger generations do not share the interest in vehicles/machinery that was more prevalent 20-30 years ago. In other words, I don’t care what’s under the hood.

I have owned a half dozen gas weedeaters, thrown half that many against a garage wall, and eventually learned to tear down and rebuild the carb on any brand out there. That said, I had not run one until I was out of college. I cut the grass hundreds of times growing up, but our kind didnt go for none of that fancy string trimmin. We didnt even own an edger until I had moved out.

GTFO, it’s opening a hood, not overhauling an engine
And this attitude is why your son doesn’t know shite.

You’re his dad, did you think he was gonna learn through osmosis?

The problem is their fathers.

Dropped our Volvo at a well known European car repair shop in BR a few years ago. They had to call me to show them how to open the hood. Didn’t leave me with a lot of confidence.

Can he change a flat tire?
Jump a ded battery from a live one
If not his Dad or Mom should have taught him how
before handing him car keys.
Sadly very few know anything except how to call Roadside assistance

I was showing him how to put radiator fluid in the damn thing, sent up pictures of the type to buy where to buy it etc, told him to buy a plastic funnel etc, and sent him several videos of how to do it etc. I had no clue he didn’t know how to open a hood. I had to send videos on that too. i have showed him several times as part of putting oil in a car, it just didn’t take.
I have tried numerous times to teach him about cars, etc. He and his friends have zero interest in it. So I just have to do everything

But I bet the know all about something techy. Possibly audio, video, or. Gaming. Kids are different these days. No saying good or bad, but different. At least, that's true for the kids in my life.

Should have bought him a truck and some truck nutz. He would have become a baw instead of a metro.

Your son is clueless because of you, not because he is a millennial. And unless he is 27 or older he isn’t really a millennial either.

Some cars it isn't easy. I feel like a Jaguar you need to be shown how to open it and I had a car that had the release under the bumper with no release inside the car.
