My 2nd grader is learning it and gets graded on it every Friday.

I would think you would need a full refund. If they didn’t teach cursive 10+ years ago, what else didn’t they teach.

It's why they should still be required to learn to use an abacus and a slide rule, too.
No, it's why math should still be taught even though calculators exist.

I promise all schools have gaps. Strengths and weaknesses. If you are honest you will admit it as your kid goes thru.
Mine have attended magnet public schools, universities, and private K-12. None of em are perfect.
umm pretty sure i didnt say they didnt have gaps. just said its not replaced with glitter time as project suggested

Why would they stop teaching cursive in school?
It's worth nothing today.
YOU ARE SO DUMB.....think of all the important historical documents that are written in cursive. If we ever get hit with an EMP and all the little electronic devices that dictate everything to dumb young folks, you'll have to depend on people who can read cursive to know what's in those documents.

before you call people dumb....may actually want to learn how an emp works.
let me guess you think it knocks out cars, cell phones and other small electronics?

but yea lets teach kids cursive so they can be smart like you.
get back on the stick and get that pipe welded and stop playing on your phone old man!!

We had to know it by 4th grade. Our kids have same requirement. They don’t use it often though beyond that because of school tablets for everything

My 16 yr old was asked for his signature while getting a driver's license and had no idea what to do.
He printed his name like a 1st grader.

I write almost exclusively in cursive, but most people can’t read my cursive whether they were taught it in school or not.
On the rare occasion I have to leave a hand written note for someone, I usually just use print as a courtesy.

And there it is. I got called by a 26 year old who didn’t know how to use jumper cables.

Because most of the time when I am writing something by hand, it’s for my own future use or the people who see it next know my handwriting. Taking notes, etc.
I can write a lot faster in cursive than print.

So you're saying the method is not as important as learning the core part of the subject matter. Like learning to read and write is more important than learning to do it in cursive, which is borderline archaic now and will probably be looked upon as a quaint artifact of the past and primarily an art form sometimes used for calligraphy within one or two generations.

Schools harping on learning cursive back in elementary school circa the 90s was the biggest waste of time out of anything we did, IMO.
