Yep, the man who tagged lions and jerked off mountain gorillas while Marlin hovered safely above in his helicopter - has died. I remember oh so many Sunday nights long ago, listening to the weird yet catchy theme song and traveling to far away lands to tag shite. They were always tagging shite.

Anyway, he outlived the old bastard by quite a few years. He really was kind of a legend. Godspeed Jim.

Jim Fowler, the naturalist and longtime co-host and host of the TV show Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, died Wednesday at his home in Norwalk, Connecticut, his family announced. He was 89.

Fowler, an Emmy winner for his work on the nature program, also made more than 100 appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, served as a wildlife correspondent for the Today show and showed up (with a hawk) as a guest on a talk show hosted by Kramer (Michael Richards) out of his apartment on a 1997 episode of Seinfeld.

Fowler and fellow zoologist Marlin Perkins worked on Wild Kingdom starting with the pilot episode that aired on Jan. 9, 1963, through Perkins' retirement in 1985. Fowler then went it alone for a few years and returned to the show when it was revived in 2002.

Man, the memories of watching that show when I was a kid.

Marlin narrating the action while Jim battled animals with his bare hands.

Good times.

RIP Jim.

Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom and This Week In Baseball were two staples of entertainment for me.

RIP.

I still remember the old MoO jingle because Wild Kingdom was on the TV every Sunday afternoon in the 70s.

I wish Mutual of Omaha would die. I get too much junk mail from them. They don’t give a crap about the planet.

I loved that show when I was a kid. ONe episode was when a python or anaconda wrapped itself around Mr Fowler's body. MY mom freaked out.

The grip combined with the look on Marlin's face makes me think that he's confusing the gila monster with something else.
