Flights to Paris seem like the next step for MSY

The new MSY has been much better than I would have predicted. The parking is the one major issue.

I’ll add that the drive up access is inadequate. During rush times it is extremely backed up, and there is no reason for that in a new build. If they add gates, and therefore traffic, they better plan for that traffic.

I’m not sure how our infrastructure could handle more airport traffic. Or our interstate. It’s a cluster now. As someone said, at least when it was on airline, it was multiple entry points and also out of the way. They should have expanded there if it were possible and made parking and shuttle where the new space is. As someone easy to get to. Just my thoughts.

Proposal would bring total gates at the airport to 65.

The airport business is good! Ever notice EVERY airport you go to is under construction? Nice racket.

Another major issue is picking people up. It is a perpetual clusterfrick. There simply isn’t enough room.

THIS is the biggest issue by far.

Do it on the marked for departures. So much easier. The ground level between the terminal and the long term garage is a disaster; I'd rather park in the economy lot and shuttle than deal with the morons directing traffic, the idiots picking people up and the asshats trying to cross the street or get picked up.

MSY is a logistical shite show; parking, shuttles, all of it. Once past security, it's not bad but nothing special.

always pick up at the departures ramp. Also, when departing yourself, drop bags at the curb if you have a partner and take the short term parking ramp that’s right there, park and walk back down the ramp to go to security

One way in one way out
Absolutely idiotic
Also poorly marked signage near the roundabout and for parking can really send you in the wrong direction

They thought people would use the cell phone lot

Instead you have people who either want to park for 25 minutes or people who just want to keep “making the loop” over and over

Park in cell lot. When the traveler walks out with bags, they call the person in cell phone lot and it’s a short drive. Easy.

But no one does that, so the system isn’t working

They are building an internal connector that will cut down on transit time

They should add some kind of tram or light rail from the airport to the french quarter with stops along the way

The first stop should be the rental cars and overflow short term parking of the old airport.

You guys are very good planners but very poor readers.

I’ve never had much of an issue. Even when the line is long af it’s never taken me more than 15 mins to get through security.

Last week, 8 am

Time from entering line to showing ID: 3 minutes

Time from showing ID to leaving security area: 5 minutes, including the time I spent being fondled by a TSA worker

I do not have clear or pre-check

Seems like Air France or Delta would be able to swing this. Delta used to do a PIT-CDG 4x weekly on a narrow body if you can believe it. I've taken that flight on a 757 before, which was the only narrow body route I've ever taken across the Atlantic. .

MSY-CDG is a longer route. Would need a Dreamliner. Air France or Delta would likely be concerned that the nonstop to London would compete with it.

Article in the Advocate today says that they'll probably need more gates (they didn't say 30....but somewhere between 1 and 30 new gates), more security lines, more baggage claim areas, and more garage parking. The security line and the garage parking are definitely issues sometimes.

I don't know how they could possibly address the automotive traffic issue unless they have an entirely new check in area for the new gates to the west of the one they have now. Some really large airports have that, but it would probably be a more difficult/expensive thing to operate daily for a non-hub like MSY.

I'd love to see MSY be a full fledged hub. Southwest is slowly moving towards a traditional hub and spoke model. They and Breeze are probably going to take some new gates.

Hopefully they can incorporate this fix into the expansion. I'm guessing it's going to be west of the current terminal.

DFW has a stupid long shuttle wait too, but it's also got like 185 gates and nonstops to almost everywhere.
