I am very lucky in this regard: My wife and I only do gifts on birthdays and Christmas.

It's more than just mothers day, that she is acting up. It's just her opportunity. Work on fixing how you treat her and just "do what's right".
Mothers Day in my house is special. She gets breakfast in bed has she has for the 13 years our son has been with us. A couple small gifts, flowers and a great dinner of her choice cooked by us. This year it's steak and shrimp scampi. I will knock some laundry for her and our son will do some vacuuming for her. Embrace your love for her and make her feel special every day and Mothers Day will be YOUR shinning moment. That way you don't have to wait for fathers day for a BJ.
