Dark grey - charcoal can be a bit too dark at times.

Grey and navy are both appropriate in most instances, but grey is more somber and often feels more appropriate.

Navy. No question.

If you're going to start buying some nice, tailored suits, you want to start with a navy suit. It's a staple. Don't listen to anyone saying gray. The majority of the dudes in here dress like shite.

Grey. Charcoal or dark grey to be specific. Light grey isn't as versatile

Definitely a question. Navy is better for weddings, but shouldn't be worn to funerals. Gray can be worn to funerals, and also weddings. Gray is more appropriate for business.

Navy can be a first suit, and should definitely be your second suit. But I would recommend gray for most people.
