Standing on my own two feet on a rig drill floor after being up for days. Wasn't a long sleep though.

I have two friends that have the ultimate winner. Got blackout one night on Beale street and are woken up by the cops because they broke into a middle school and passed out in a classroom.

Back of a Tank at the Range, during Gunnery. My tank was back from the active line 100 yards, or so.

In the middle of a strange forest on the forest floor while a storm raged overhead. All I had on me was a gig and a bag of dead frogs...

While sober .... 70 mi out on a platform in GOM on the helideck. AC was out in the quarters, it was late June and hot as balls so we drug the mattresses on top of the helideck for the night. Not sure we did a JSA for that activity, no one rolled stumbled off the deck in the night ...

Most of these responses are from people basically passing out drunk. This is what I what though it would be, baws passing our from being dead tired working.

In the oil field I've seen a dude fall asleep while welding. I've seen a guy fall asleep while grinding with a 9" grinder. Seen many people fall asleep standing up, I was one, woke up quick when I hit the ground.

On the toilet of the Tri-Delt (not LSU) president's bathroom during family weekend back in the day. Her little brother found me there.

Seriously? Of course most responses were going to be after a binder.

Not really unusual, but I slept in a gutter off Bourbon once. I woke up in the OPP for public drunk and obstructing a sidewalk (what they cite the homeless people for). Never again. OPP was no joke and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I can type a few paragraphs on my experience there, which I'll save for another post.

On a sidewalk next to a club in South Beach I don't remember going to. Result of being drugged and robbed.

Woke up on a grassy knoll in a parking lot in an apartment complex near LSU. Was soaking wet from the dew.

Done the under the bridge - couple nights - couple different times (no w/o being homeless). Same with picnic tables from here to there. On top of a truck box- they sleep good for a road trip, just right size for sleeping pad, and fast-to-go for all manner of places: like the parking lot of a south of the border Mexican motel (up early and gone fast), to right-atop Continental divide in those oh-no-parking spots (great views and you acclimatize for those higher altitude hikes), and no=parking overlook for tower falls in Yellowstone, an so on...

Spent little over a week in public (non camping) park in Augsburg adjoining this nudist beach. Funny the hours people keep. Had hooked up with some Kiwi's, Australians, Canadians, Germans, Swedes, and Chechens... funny how so many different guys could all agree on a good spot to stay. (was a big gathering for for a whitewater comp - with lots of folks looking for a place to stay)

A not the best - was an amphitheater stage on Mayo Island, Richman Va the then murder capital of the United States... basically on an island between rival gangs. Imagine five or six unarmed white boys on a stage on an island in midst of bang-bang-bang, on no-mans lands amid what appeared to be an in-the-hood turf war. Glad to have that one behind me.

A very beginners - Off road in a torrential thunderstorm - while under a Dodge pickup (and fully clothed) with two other college friends on paper making felt ... wasn't much sleep, kept thinking about dioxins in the felt, and the differential is awfully hard on your head.

Awoke with a couple shotguns in the face on the used to be green grass of a amusement park by two county sheriffs, a state trooper, and a local whatever... we had jumped a recent installed fence and crashed in a place we always had used before (several years) up in Little River Canyon. Problem was they were reopening that week and we had just thrown down, with a fish fry over an even bigger open fire, in the middle of everything.... and coolers of you guessed-it every where in a dry county. Care taker wanted to press for all manner of charges; Got lucky because if wasn't for having so much beer for them law boys to confiscate (share along with a couple coolers of ice) those cops would have never (not ever) talked him out of it.

There was one night spent among a herd of javelina in between Sonoran- Chihuahuan deserts. We (me and the pigs) were inadvertently sharing the same stand of cottonwoods, was able to sleep until they started rubbing up against my tent.... just a wee more sleep than that long night in a major Utah desert dust storm.

maybe most unusual

Four solo nights under a canoe on Lake Powell in slot canyons. amid natural bridges, Indian pictographs, barely standing kiva's, and ancient granaries ,... on sandy beaches, under the milky way, and no -none - not what so ever lights.... 50-60 mile from either end remote - from the North side it's about as hard a walk into as any place in the lower 48. And the Navajo not to keen about letting you in from the south.
