Yes, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Looks like the type of acft involved in the mishap, Embraer E175, uses the civilian version of the A-10 engine, which makes me think this was on purpose even more.

Also possible that he slipped and got his arm into the intake and died from blood loss.

can’t imagine any commercial aircraft engines, currently in regular use, being strong enough to suck up a human

I am no aeronautical engineer but... These engines produce sufficient thrust to drive a big arse plane full of people and luggage down the runway at 150 mph. Pretty sure if it's moving that kind of air it is capable of pulling an adult human into the intake.

Baggage handler shouldn't have been anywhere near front of the engine. Cargo doors are in rear.

Those guy usually don't get anywhere near the plane till engine shutdown.

Either deliberate or somebody got sloppy.

It's a hell of a way to go, but maybe it beats getting bled dry at 90 by some court-appointed conservator and her nurse buddies. I say "Godspeed, Captain Turbofan."

Big difference between input and output… on top of that, the engine wouldn’t have been anywhere near full power near the gate.

Even on taxi in our out it would have been minimal power.

Prayers to his family, for him he was fortunate. If you going to go that would be pretty painless from being so quick.

Why would a handler be anywhere near a running engine?
I fly this exact airplane. There’s no reason why anyone should be anywhere near a running engine.

On pushback, usually only one engine is started, and on arrival to the gate, usually only one is running also.

Of the hundreds of departures and arrivals I’ve made, the ramp crew are always at the wingtips and one person in front of the airplane. I’ve never seen a ramper approach the plane near the engines.
