Missoula is the place to avoid, it's like mini-Portland. Homeless people and weirdos everywhere in the warmer months, and it's weird for the sake of weird which is...fine, but not my thing, and probably not yours either. I was in Portland last week and can draw a lot of direct comparisons.

Bozeman will hopefully steer clear of that fate as it grows. There's enough red votes, farmers and blue collar folks here in the rest of the Gallatin Valley that I think most of the insanity will stay away.

You may want to consider the Kalispell/Polson/Big Fork area around Flathead Lake, up north by Glacier NP. Very laid-back and conservative towns, heavier Christian influence than any other larger metro area in Montana. Absolutely beautiful there as well.

The large landowners in Montana are a mixed bag of cowboys, billionaire oilmen and Ted Turner.

State gets more like a big sky version of Austin every minute.

i love doing that for a week on a cold weather vacation
