Alexandria is by far the worst spot in the state...

Monroe at least has some nice areas.

Ellick is at least centrally located where you can get almost anywhere in a few hours.

It's also surrounded by parks, forests, and public land so you can easily escape the crime ridden, soulless mass of chain restaurants and stores that characterizes the dying corpse of the city.

Monroe is considerably better but that’s more an indictment of Alexandria.

this

I will say as a post high school grad college student I enjoyed monroe alot. If I went to school later in life like you I dont know if I wouldve walked away with the same assessment.

At least Alexandria, you’re closer to the fun part of the state

I remember getting frustrated with where I lived to the near point of depression when i was in grad school in Monroe....then hearing that Alexandria was worse...which is staggering. I think Monroe is fine for a small town in the south but has seriously no business having a college....so no clue why Alec has 2...although one of them being baptists tracks.

Alexandria is the land that time forgot. That being said, as a 5 year old who made family trips there from Jonesville for doctor’s appointments and Sam’s runs it might as well have been New York City

My Dad said his father told him pretty much the same thing but in 1958.

Due to the Army I have travelled the world from S. Korea to Poland and all over the U.S. and, even though there is a bit of pretty land there, CENLA is good place to escape from.

Reworded: The best thing about Ellick is that you can easily drive somewhere better.

Interesting take considering Ruston and Grambling (which are both within 30 minutes of Monroe) also have universities.

I have no comment on Grambling, but people who I know went to tech loved Ruston and called it a classic college town. Monroe has too much crushing Baptist influence to ever feel like a college town imo....maybe in reality it's not much different....but I know enjoying even grad school there was difficult.

Perhaps you need to research Ruston's liquor laws.

quote:

It is illegal to sell or serve alcohol from Midnight to 6 AM Monday – Saturday and from Midnight on Saturday – 6 AM Monday.

Wild that you think an even smaller town is more fun.

Again....I dont... I just know far more people that enjoyed their college experience in Ruston than did in Monroe

In my 20's Monroe was the worst and it extended beyond the liqour laws... any place local new and fun would fail as people worshiped olive garden and logans...there was basically no local music scene...they had occasional rivermarkets that started having a bar.... when we went one time I asked where the bar was as I didn't see it and got scolded for wanting a drink.
