This was my question. With social media how did a woman stay off the grid so long. I really would like to know the whole story behind this. Also she’s a POS for abandoning her kids.

This honestly sounds like she might be homeless or similarly destitute. Authorities are honoring her request for anonymity because there’s nothing for anyone to go after.

Surely she has lived under a different name or she would have been found more recently.

I don't have to imagine. Happened to one of my best friends. Wife just left when oldest kid was in high school.
She was found and my buddy told the oldest where he could find her. Kid went to visit mom, and she completely rejected him.
Kid was never the same after that and committed suicide 5 years ago about 15 years after being abandoned.
The youngest found out the truth about mom after her brother's suicide, and now won't speak to dad because he lied.
Situation is beyond messed up.

The more I think about this whole situation, it makes me more angry that it probably should. The taxpayers on NC should hit her up for the wasted tax dollars they spent looking for her all these years.
