This is the key ingredient in the whole affair. The mental/biological barriers aren't correctly established. There are plenty of cases of parent-offspring or sibling relationships that happen due to not being raised by/together but meeting later in life.

The State has a compelling reason to ban incestuous marriages because of the risk of genetic damage to offspring. There are probably studies showing incestuous relationships as mentally damaging and a whole host of other negatives to those types of relationships. It would be very easy for a state's AG to differentiate between homosexual and incestuous relationships.

If the inability to assure healthy offspring is a litmus test the state can legally require to marry, then gay marriage is in trouble.

There are also studies showing engaging in a homosexual lifestyle leads to shortened life expectancy, higher suicide rates, higher rates of STDs, and even higher rates of mental disorders. Again, if we are going by the standard of what is "bad" for the state, the homosexual marriage is as bad or even worse than incestuous marriage.
