He probably used a vegan ink. When it gets down to like the pig collagen and fish scales fricking everything has animal products as some point in the manufacture. Food is such a small part of it. If you grasp how much it's everywhere it's gotta be a totally impossible stressful lifestyle. So yeah, he probably thoroughly investigated the ink and ensuring zero animal products meant it was gonna look shitty as frick
