Suicide is voluntarily committed, and therefore ineligible for victim status.

But I've always questioned whether or not we should try to stop suicidal people. If we are truly supposed to have "free will" then shouldn't we be allowed to decide when we want to check out?

Yes you should always work to help suicidal people. It is a fluttering, usually temporary error of the human mind that is almost always circumstancial and topical of the moment... Not a forever issue. Moreover it's absolutely devastating to what it leaves in its wake. I beg of you - do as much as you can to intervene and help your people.

The two police officers were fired for not doing their job. Justice served. Nobody should catch extra charges over a suicide.

The other officers helped and were pissed about the two officers leaving the scene.

Well they got fired. They aren’t going to face criminal charges if that’s what you mean.

I know this ruffles feathers every single time.

The Supreme Court has ruled in several cases between medical help and protecting people that officers are NOT required to render medical aid to a person or have not legally required to protect anyone either.

It sucks but they won’t get in trouble for that because of the different Supreme Court cases

All true but the issue isn’t with the legal aspects, it’s with their humanity. I don’t think I’m capable of walking away from someone needing help staying alive without at least trying to render aid.

I've told his on here before, and it's a long story, but I saved a guy from drowning on a fishing trip to the Bahamas a few years back, while his best and lifelong buddies stood and watched

I don’t understand how a person is capable of doing nothing for a complete stranger much less a friend. I would definitely need to reevaluate the status of our friendship

So like shooting yourself before shift change?

Citizens are equal pieces of shite btw.

Where do the cops come from? oh yeah, our populace.

Also what were these guys previous records? Decent? Shitty? They may have actually fired two decent cops when talking about cops in general.

Shock. It's extremely effective in rendering people useless to help, it happens all the time, even in minor situations. But 777 is a steely eyed man who doesn't panic or freeze up under pressure.

The lack of even basic first aid knowledge like we started getting in the Scouts back in the day, would help some.

I can see how a total lack of knowledge would be intimidating for someone when confronted with a life or death situation. We really dropped the ball on first aid training with our kids after the Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts dropped in popularity. But I’ve been in a few situations that could have frozen me and my instinct is to do something. I truly don’t understand the flight instinct when you have to option to fight, especially when someone else’s life is on the line.
