MLB Warns Giants Pitchers Who Wore Bible Verses on Caps During ‘Pride Night’

Right-handed pitcher Landen Roupp started Friday’s game on the mound. Etched on his cap throughout the game was “Gen 9:12-16” in white lettering. The writing was a reference to the Bible verse Genesis 9:12-16.

In addition to Roupp, a pair of San Francisco’s relief pitchers, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker, also took the mound in Friday’s game with Bible verses on their hats. Additionally, reliever Sam Hentges opted against wearing the Pride Night cap, entering the game with the team’s standard black and orange cap, as opposed to the one with the rainbow logo.
quote:The verse in the Bible which Roupp wore on his hat, Gensesis 9:12-16, reads: "And God said, 'This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.'"
“It’s just about God’s covenant and a promise that he makes to us that, you know, his faithfulness and his mercy... That’s just kind of something I believe in, and I stand firm in that, and I’m thankful we live in a country where, you know, we have the freedom to believe what we want … and express what we want.”
quote:
“The San Francisco Giants are proud to support Pride Night and the LGBTQ+ community. Baseball should be a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued. We also respect that individuals may make personal choices about participating in team activations. We understand that the choices by individual players have caused pain and anger to many in the LGBTQ+ community and we are sorry for that. Those choices do not change our organization’s commitment to inclusion, belonging, and creating a welcoming environment for all. We remain grateful to our fans, partners, employees, players, and coaches who help make Pride Night a meaningful celebration.”
quote:Looks like you can count on MLB management to bend the knee for the gays. I’m sure they enjoy that
“The writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations,” MLB’s chief communications officer Pat Courtney told The Athletic.

Seems like a peaceful and inclusive verse that ties into the rainbow logo they were forced to wear.

sounds like they are bending both knees

instead of rainbow foolishness the league could regain its former glory if they'd just allow players to blast steroids and make it fun to watch like it was back then

Rob Schneider tweeted that he will pay their fines, if they do ever get fined...

For a whole myriad of reasons, we should have ended MLB’s anti-trust exemption years ago. But this would be a really good time to do it. There needs to be a shot across their bow.

frick the SF giants and the MLB.
The players shouldn’t be forced to wear gay caps.

Adam Sandler better get his checkbook ready. I don’t think Rob’s got it like that.

The rebellious youth using bible verses is quite the turn of events.

He is worth 10 to 15 million according to Google AI... sure, he has made some dumb movies but he has been killing it lately on the stand up circuit trolling liberals... Good for him to stand up and call out this nonsense!

I really don't see a problem with MLB not wanting them writing bible verses or really anything at all on the caps. The problem is making them wear the pride hats to begin with though.

I didn’t even know figs watched baseball

I had no idea players were forced to wear hats with pride symbols. Seems that should be a choice in my opinion

Sam Hentges did not face any disciplinary action for wearing a regular hat on Pride Night.

They don’t have to wear them. A different reliever came in wearing their standard hat later in this same game.
Ol boy in the OP and a few others opted for performative “look at me” protesting, which is his choice, but yeah, an obvious breach of MLB rules.

First they tell them that humping each other in the outfield is too gay, now they’re saying writing Bible verses on their hats isn’t gay enough? Make up your mind, MLB.
