re: MIZZOU suffers backlash and falling admissions after protests

I work with an ultra-liberal gal, from Missouri, hates Mizzou (calls it a frat boy school), and when I raise this argument, her response is always along the lines of "Poor little snowflakes whose mommies and daddies don't want them to see people protesting....." In other words, she tries to turn the "safe space" argument around on me.
She doesn't get it. This is the market at work. Most middle class folks don't give two shits about the protesters. They simply don't have time for that foolishness and can take their dollars elsewhere. This concept seems lost on my friend.

Awesome. I hope Pinkel is still in support of this bullshite. He and the administration are getting everything they deserve, and asked for.

No other community that I know of has historically supported a university more than Columbia has Mizzou. This has produced an unintended proprietary sense in some students that would not have reaped the same benefits or acceptance elsewhere. The community support is inevitably going to wane now and that is unfortunate for all of the students, not just the idiots responsible for the present mess.

Did they never stop and think how much their degree devalues when negative connotations are attached to it? For the foreseeable future, this is the only thing people will think of when Mizzou is mentioned. I hope the little temper tantrum attention grab was worth it. That school will never be the same.

As far as the admins go. I still think it's stupid that the president resigned over this.

As long as TAMU goes with them. I'll sign.

How many signatures could we get on a petition to kick Mizzou out the SEC?

100% not a troll. They need to be kicked out of the SEC. Looks like they are just sucking on the teat after this mess.

I've been reading some books on 60's espionage, and there is a surprising amount of discussion about many universities where liberal professors had a lock on jobs - conservatives had no chance.
It's so cute that you thing it is liberal professors when it is clearly aliens.

This passionate backlash doesn’t appear to have been a bluff. Already, freshman enrollment is down 25%, leaving a $32 million funding gap and forcing the closure of four dorms. The month after the protests, donations to the athletic department were a mere $191,000—down 72% over the same period a year earlier.

Threaten to boycott another game and the SEC should pull the plug.

Ah that's nice to see. This is what happens when you don't have a backbone, hopefully they get removed from the SEC soon. We don't need this crap in our conference. Hope they go bankrupt and all these shitbirds lose out on their safe space.

Good. You reap what you sow. I hope the school loses tons of money & students. I knew Pinkel was leaving when he said he supported his idiot players. Please kick these amateurs out of the SEC.

Is it too late to kick them out of the SEC? I thought they were gonna come in and support their own weight but now they will be leeching on us for money because their donation went down. TAMU at least makes money.

Everyone knows the media will spin this as proof that Mizzou is an awful, racist place right? It's how the media operates- see a small group of malcontents, give them exposure and focus on making them sympathetic figures in the narrative you're spinninng, whip them up into a proper froth until things boil over, and then rush in and say "See, there is a story here!"
They have to spin this as being a fault of the school as an institution, and on a larger scale American society, because otherwise it becomes apparent that the media itself is pretty much creating this racially charged, divisive material for it to report on, rather than actually doing the work of reporting on existing issues and maintaining a seperation and professionalism with regards to their material.

I'm pissed they are in our conference. I can't imagine actually wanting to go there now.
