Missouri Man Determined to Have Sex with Metrolink Train

CLAYTON, Mo. (First Alert 4) - For the second time in less than a year, a man is charged with attempting to engage in a sexual act with a seat on the Metrolink.

St. Louis County prosecutors charged Deangelo Covington on Tuesday with two counts of misdemeanor sexual misconduct. He is currently confined in the county jail without bond pending a March 3 reduction hearing.

According to a St. Louis County Police probable cause statement, a victim told investigating officers that on Feb. 13 she saw Covington at the UMSL South platform. At the time, he allegedly had his genitals exposed and was moving them around until the victim boarded the train.

Later that day, police learned Covington boarded the train at the Central West End station. Near Lambert Airport station, he allegedly exposed himself and attempted a sexual act for about 10 minutes with the upper bar of a train seat.

Both the incidents were caught on surveillance video, police said.

The charges filed Tuesday come about 10 weeks after Covington was released from the county jail on a sexual misconduct charge in June that happened on a Metrolink train. In that case, the engineer boarded the train and saw Covington with his genitals exposed and attempting to engage in sexual activity with a seat.

Covington pleaded guilty in that case on Dec. 9 and was sentenced to time served, 173 days in the county jail. The incident to which Covington pleaded guilty happened on June 7, just days after he was released following a May 30 guilty plea to four sex crimes.

Prosecutors at the time told First Alert 4 they were limited in seeking a harsher sentence because the offenses did not have an element of physical contact.
