People don’t want to pay taxes. People also want nice things like roads, police and fire protection, good schools, libraries, parks, etc. Those things cost money and are paid for by taxes

We had all these before there was an income tax

What are they replacing it with? If more property taxes, I wouldn't be on board.

Under the plan, the income tax will drop by 0.25% each year until 2030, when it reaches 3%. From that point on, the tax will drop gradually depending on the gap between the state's revenue and expenses until it is eventually eliminated entirely.

AKA, Mississippi is not eliminating the income tax

Edit: Guy below me said the same thing and has 7 upvotes vs my 1.

So you didn't eliminate it, and the likilhood of it ever being eliminated completely is about as close to zero as it can get. You just put some words down that woudl make some people happy, but there;s no real intent to actually completely remove it b/c you'll always have a reason to show that gap necessary to keep that 3% coming in. Well done gov't. You suck as usual.

Great as long as they don’t increase property tax.

The most sadistic tax of all is the one where you have to pay the government for the land you already own free and clear.

They will just raise another tax. I don't know why you people get so excited about this crap.

They'll just make up the slack with sales tax, property tax, and fees for just about everything.

Texas makes theirs back with franchise taxes that taxes even foreign entities.

What Mississippi (and Louisiana) needs is the elimination of budget grift. Focus on what government is supposed to do: infrastructure and public safety.

You ever driven around the Lake Charles area or gone down river road from Baton Rouge down to New Orleans?
I’d call that a ton of industry

I wouldn’t, and neither would anyone else who knows what they’re talking about.

If you can count the public companies located in your state on your hands, you, in fact, do not have a ton of industry

Tate Reeves strikes me as one of the slimier governors in our Union. He just screams corruption and treating $70M of federal welfare dollars as a slush fund when Lt. Governor was a sign of things to come. No idea how dude was elected after that bullshite.

I lived in Madison, MS for 12 years, my kids still live there. Madison is nicer than any city I’ve been to in Louisiana, including Mandeville. By Far.

The tax ends by 2037 no matter what, regardless of gaps in revenue.
