I hate to say it but this is not newsworthy. Did everyone stereotype the gunman? Does that make you racist? If the races were reversed, this would be headline news. How many people must die before they learn to meet in a public place?

There must have been a pretty good reason that the previous carjacking case was dropped because Cannizaro (the previous DA) increased NO's case acceptance rate from 50% to 90%. He was even criticized for being too hard on young offenders and trying them as adults. He didn't go light on people and didn't sugarcoat things.

I used to stop at the food mart across the street from that complex. Not a great neighborhood, but not one I'd expect to be murdered in. There's a pretty nice shopping center about a mile north.
Manhattan is a busy-ish street, and a handgun popping off in open air might not get noticed where there's lots of cars moving at 40 mph and likely a few roofing crews operating nearby. If he was by the dumpster, apartment complexes usually put windowless walls facing dumpsters.
Plus, there's always the no-snitch culture of that demographic.
ETA: I realize the roofing comment might not make since. Roofing crews are still working all over the place where I live. I guess New Orleans missed the hurricanes this year.

Hells yea, who needs a viable case for conviction. I bet if we locked up everyone accused of anything we can beat crime.
It definitely sucks when you see a situation like this but.... without any context of why the DA refused the charge we have no idea if he was out of line. We have a high threshold for conviction and you have no clue what this side did or didn’t do during this other event

It is a problem in black culture.
Crime is tolerated because having crime in their community to them is more tolerable than having a black criminal turned in to the system of justice that they see is a predominantly white institution.
