Maybe it's more about the money potential... but I wouldn't count out racism being on their radar- race relations are poisoned these days and they have all kinds of people bending their ears on whitey right now.

Doesn’t matter because they will never publicly fully admit that it was an accident. To me that’s what makes their immediate reaction to this so despicable. As soon as they decided to go down this path there could only be 2 possible outcomes for them: either foul play is confirmed or nothing is confirmed and suspicions will remain. They’ll never admit anything else nor do their supporters want them to. Nothing short of surveillance footage showing the whole thing as an accident would get them to admit it. And we know that doesn’t exist.
