A six year old walks into a fire and is burned to a crisp. Her father witnessed it all and could have stopped it.

Police: "Why didn't you stop her? You're a murderer."
Father: "I loved her, but I never designed her to walk into a fire."

That's the type of argument for God the Father's loving plan we're being asked to embrace.

Well, let's discuss those assumptions.

Mine is that matter and energy are eternal and always existed. Yours is that an eternal god preceded matter and energy.

Which of those assumptions is more complicated?

Mine is superior because regarding the subject of our assumptions I CAN ACTUALLY SEE AND WITNESS MINE. It requires less imagination and self-interest than yours.

That's fine. You believe that your assumption is superior to my assumption. I can honestly live with that. But the fact of the matter is, we are both basing our lives on assumptions.

It's why I don't ridicule or belittle those that believe as you do. I get it. And if it makes you feel better knowing your assumption is superior, I'm good with that. Just admit we're all just assuming, that's all.

I never understand how those that believe in a creator will belittle those that don't. But in the same way, I cannot understand why those that don't, feel it's completely justified to belittle those that do. We're not that different. Just you feel you are more superior.

One position is based on countless scientific facts. The other is based on a book written by primitives.

Yeah some poor kid gets shot in the head by home intruders. I'm not seeing the positive of the situation.

Hope the kid is ok but if this is a sign of God performing miracles then I don't want to meet this God.

I will say that the invasion was in Tennessee, but will not say where so as to protect the privacy of the family.

And to whoever brought up Dylan Roof in a prayer circle, to paraphrase the bible: "Wherever two or more are gathered in prayer, there shall I be also".

I think it is a fair assumption that Roof was not in agreement, in his heart, with much anything being prayed about in that circle.

Is this that hard to understand? If God stops you from walking into the fire then you don't have free will. Do your parents not love you because they don't control your every move?

A man commits a shameful act, but that's God's fault and not man's fault? Atheists say the dardest things.

Science does not preclude faith and faith does not preclude science. To say that either one does is preposterous.

I've read the Bible, have attended Catholic mass all my life, and now I go to a Methodist church every Sunday. I go Bc the kids enjoy the day care and my wife likes it. I like Christians. The beliefs don't make much logical sense to me, but I like Christians.

Well, God did create that wicked man and did know that wicked man would commit that shameful act, so if it's not Gods fault it happened then it is Gods fault for not preventing it. I understand if God isn't going to stop wicked people from sinning. But when that sinning impacts innocent people, that's where I have the issue. Just how I believe people should be free to do what they want with their own bodies and property...it becomes an issue when they start affecting others.

Uhh..pretty sure if I stop my kid from walking into a fire it doesn't mean my kid lacks free will.

And yeah, I'd say a parent that stands by idly watching his child walk into a fire definitely does not love said child. Only a total psychopath would just stand there contemplating the philosophical intricacies that a rescue action would have on the child's free will.

I just wanted to say that I'm truly happy for your story. Really I am.

But will you expound on why God has not answered thousands of other prayers by parents of dying children? Because "original sin" isn't a viable answer

Maybe, in order to sometimes demonstrate his love, he allows the tragedy to occur.

He allows some children to die excruciating deaths, while save others who pray hard enough? Screw that "God"
