Uber and Lyft has definitely reduced dwi arrests and deaths. Taking someone’s property from them, maybe in the short term. But it does nothing to address the issues people with multiple DUIs experience. Only exacerbates them and makes it harder to seek treatment

Cops: Hey I think we should win a person's car if we catch them drinking and driving. For public safety.

What did I mischaracterize? You could blow .09 twice in 10 years (still trashy) for not signaling a lane change, and lose a $20k investment on top of paying another $10k in legal fines and attorney fees. And the police have a great incentive to do just that..

They seize the vehicle if it is involved in theft, burglary, drugs, etc. if it can be determined it was purchased with illegal money.

Well, the offending party did commit a crime. This is not like other cases where the jurisdiction kept a person's possessions where no crime was committed. I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but don't act like the government is "stealing" somebody's stuff in this case.
Louisiana does this in some illegal hunting and fishing cases.

It's theft. The ONLY time I think civil forfeiture should be used is our the vehicle was purchased with illegally gained funds. Like a drug dealer, bank theif, etc.
