Must suck for rental car companies.
I'm sure there are special things in the law to protect them.
Some type of theft by deception law or something else.

Busted for dui with a prior conviction from a few years before.
Second DUI, death penalty if only for being too stupid to allow to live.

You should move to Saudi Arabia or North Korea. You would fit right in.

Boyfriend takes girlfriends car and gets a dui. His name is not on the title, registration, nothing. State seizes car and tells girlfriend who is now out $10k “tough luck”

Generally, vehicle forfeiture does not occur in a first-time DWI offense. To be charged with Second Degree DWI or Second Degree Test Refusal, a driver must have a prior DWI offense within the previous 10 years. To be charged with First Degree DWI, a driver must have three prior offenses within the 10-year period or have a prior felony DWI conviction in the driver's lifetime. However, forfeiture can occur in a first-time incident under rare circumstances when a driver either refuses chemical testing or has a reported alcohol concentration of 0.16 or more, and has a child under age 16 in the car.
I don't care if it's the 20th DWI, the state has no right to your property.

Dude....
Police are paid to protect us from thieves, not become them themselves.

Well, that seems perfectly rational.

It actually is. What isn't rationale is continuing to pretend that all lives are worth something.

There is more to the story then this. They don’t go around seizing DUI vehicles. Yes the will suspend your license, impound the vehicle and take your license plate. But not your vehicle.
They seize the vehicle if it is involved in theft, burglary, drugs, etc. if it can be determined it was purchased with illegal money.

Ah, you're retarded. Noted.

The news story I linked states Minnesota seized 6700 vehicles in Dui cases in 2015. You betcha they do!

Nope, just have no use for someone who drinks and drives.

You sound like you know someone killed by a drunk driver. don't worry, I doubt their lives were worth anything.

I have a friend that completely turned his life around after his 2nd DWI and went into the medical field. He never killed anyone by driving drunk but I'm sure he's saved plenty of lives so that's a net positive. You're not bright.

Purely luck that he didn't kill anyone. I wouldn't have given him a third chance to turn his life around.
One DUI is a mistake , 2 is you just don't give a shite.

Maybe we should use your line of thought for people that exceed the speed limit too. We could exterminate most of the planet for the good of humanity, Mr. Goebbels.

Texting while driving once is a mistake, 2 times you should get the axe. Same with eating, doing makeup, or receiving a hummer..
Don’t get me wrong, dui is a problem and has no excuse. But there are plenty of distracted people on the road that are just as dangerous

So you're a cop then? And a murderous one also?

Seems like a conflict of interest for the arresting group getting to benefit financially from an arrest.
I may could get on board with this if the funds were used more uniformly, such as road improvements or education.

Wonder if their DWI and crashes involving impaired drivers have decreased due to this?
