Wow. That cop killed a guy while his partner did nothing to stop him. That was bad.

As a real cop, I hate people like you.

I really would like you to watch the video and give us your thoughts as a trained LEO. I think the CBS News link on page 1 has whole video.
The guy is unconscious for SEVERAL MINUTES and the cop still has his knees on the guys neck.
There is an off duty Minneapolis paramedic among the bystanders watching this go down and she is begging them to check his pulse with no response from cop.
It really is mind blowing how long it goes on.
I'm finally home and was able to watch it, and yes it did go on for far too long. The perp was clearly subdued and the officer had control of the situation, there was indeed no reason for him to keep kneeling on the guy's neck.
This looks really bad on video, and by all accounts is. I would never restrain a perp like that period (as I said earlier, we're trained to put the knee between the shoulder blades), and when I DO have to cuff someone on the ground that's been resisting I'll only leave my knee resting on his/her back for as long as it takes to get the cuffs on.
Perp then immediately gets helped off the ground and placed in a vehicle, the whole thing takes maybe 30 seconds once the knee is on their back. If one Marshal can't handle the situation and is having trouble restraining the perp, another local PO or Marshal should be on scene or there are other ways to make sure the perp stays down without risk to them until another arrives. Period. This is true for not only me, but my fellow Marshals.
Cop in the video 100% fricked up. Did he intentionally kill the guy in the street with people around though? Hell no. He should face some punishment for his negligence and never see his badge again, as law enforcement is high stakes and he clearly isn't cut out for it. A mistake or simple negligent action could cost civilian and officer lives, including your own.
I'm a US Marshal by the way. And frick that Pesticide guy for making all of us look bad, he's the type that would never make it as a Marshal and I would never want him working next to me.

Hell yes it matters. How the hell does this case affect you. People do shite and die every single day. People die of disease, old age and are murdered every single day. Politicians lie cheat and steal everyday. Cops kill people and save people every single day. Nurses and doctors make mistakes every single day and sometimes people die because of it. So again how the hell does 2 cops and a forgery suspect 1200 miles away have to do with me or you. The answer is nothing. Not a single damn thing. They're lives and deaths affect you not one single bit. You let it affect you. But something tells me you're gonna look at 2 cops you've never met nor ever will meet and label every single cop the same way.
I'm gonna eat dinner tonight and let this affect me not one bit. Going to go to sleep in my big comfy bed and not think of them one single bit. I don't know them and they don't even live in this state so again, I don't care and neither should you.
You’re right, what some fricking idiot in China did around November/December has absolutely no affect on my life.

Because the data doesn’t show that this is as big of a problem than what the mob is making it. Not all cops are bad, man. It’s okay for two things to be true at once.
I don’t think anyone believes all cops are bad.
I think the frustration is with the culture. As seen in this thread, at least 2 cops that I’ve seen have chimed in this thread and defended the actions. I think that is where the frustration lies. The cop culture that exists where cops blindly support each other. And not all cops do this, but it would be obtuse to act as if this culture doesn’t exist.
And it’s maddening as hell that even after a video as egregious as this, there are still excuses being made and victim blaming.

I see we have the same superstars from the Arbery thread fighting the good fight in this one.
Pretty alarming that one of them is a real cop.

Exactly.
And it should be pointed out that while only one guy was putting his knee on the guy's neck for ten minutes, THREE other officers were there and did nothing to stop it.
In watching the end of the video it appears that while the kneeman was white, the guy keeping the crowd back was asian and at least one of the others was black.
Makes it pretty difficult to say this is rare when four cops, in at least three separate cruisers, all felt the actions of the officer were justified. At least to the point they did nothing to stop it.

There is no room for victim blaming here. This was very bad and shows how easy it is for somebody’s life to be taken by police. Sad this guy died this way. I don’t care if he was resisting before. Once he was subdued, knee off neck.
Here is my problem with the situation. Now all my black friends are up in arms on Facebook about how bad black people have it with cops.
There is literally zero evidence at this point that race motivated these cops’ actions. I think it’s racist to assign racial motivation to people without evidence.

You'd be surprised how many bad health professionals kill people every year.

Kneeling on the neck to gain compliance of a combative suspect is common practice.
Yeah, I'm gonna go with a no on this one.
I get trying to restrain a guy, especially one who is on drugs and combatative. Kneeling on a neck for a number of minutes should never be acceptable. How long does it take to cuff the guy?

While the cop applying his knee to the perp's neck was white, there was an asian there and at least one black cop as well. Four were fired.
The media will play up the black/white thing, but this is actually an example of a mixed race group of cops exercising their self proclaimed authority to use excessive force as they please. Out of the four of them, not one stopped what was going on.

I watched the full 10+ minute video and everything in it leads me to believe that he actually did want to kill him. It's extremely hard to see it any other way. Every once in a while, a person is just crazy or evil. The dude took out his mace like he was going to spray the onlookers who saw that the guy was struggling to breathe and were pleading with him to take his knee off of the guy's neck (and he knew that was on camera). He seemed determined to keep his knee on him to prove a point (that he wasn't going to let up). I think this dude might have snapped or already was crazy.
The dude kept his knee on his neck for almost four minutes after he went unconscious (and was bleeding from his nose). The guy might have faught them before the video and all of that stuff, but he was clearly subdued once the video started rolling? Even when the ambulance was there the cop still had his knee on his neck until the moment they tried to lift his lifeless body. And I would love to hear the explanation of why the suspect/victim wasn't cuffed and sitting in the cop car after about a minute or so.

The fact that not one of the other three did anything to get the cop to ease off of his neck after he was clearly unconscious is quite perplexing. I mean, the victim is saying "they gonna kill me" before they kill him, the onlookers are saying they're gonna kill him, the onlookers point out that the dude is unconscious (which you can clearly see) and they still just sat there and let the dude keep his knee on the guy's neck until the paramedics got there to try and lift his dead body up. I'm sure the victim put up a big fight that we didn't see before they subdued him, but they killed him after that.
