Getting a masters in engineering today is more educated than an undergrad degree in engineering in 1970

Depends. That BS probably required a hell of a lot more academic rigor and understanding of core engineering principles than the MS today. In fact, I know it does because the ME curriculum has watered down even in the 15 years since I was a freshman ME major. Statics and dynamics replaced by mechatronics and lukewarm classes in g-code. Engineer can program a tool path to carve a dick in a billet of 316L yet can't figure out why he's burning up tools in the process.

Oh Lord, here we go.

It was always tougher and more rigorous back in the day.

because that leads one to being more “educated”

No, it leads to being more credentialed.

Milennials have he highest pct of high school grads, the highest pct of college grads, and the highest pct of masters/phds

Credentialed, not educated.

That is what makes them factually the most educated generation.

The most credentialed.

I'll give you pro-tip: Go compare course and grade requirements to graduate at the BS/BA and MS/MA level for your average majors today compared to even 30 years ago.

A college degree today is a fricking joke to obtain. Period.

Congratulations.

I'm sure you worked hard. I'm sure you had plenty of things go your way just by happenstance. History suggest that's how most successful people materialize.

The difference in threads like this is that many of you fail to acknowledge the outside factors and mistakenly believe hard work alone is the difference.

ETA - I say all of that to say everyone would be better if they worked harder. Not arguing otherwise.

So, in short, boomers benefited off the success of their parents by getting jobs in a booming post war economy with no education, and have since hoarded more and more of their money, creating one of the biggest wealth gaps observed in modern history.

The hoarding/non-hoarding of money has nothing to do with it.

There are several reasons for the wealth-gap but some of the biggest are the population bubble that boomers represent. When they were 20-35, there were substantially less people aged 50-65 in the workforce which meant there were a lot more jobs and a lot more opportunities for quick upward mobility.

Another is the devaluation of college degrees due to college subsidation.

It's cute you think you're going to jump from (if you're lucky) middle management cog to C-level overnight.

Over the past 100 years, Americans' mean IQ has been on a slow but steady climb. Between 1900 and 2012, it rose nearly 30 points, which means that the average person of 2012 had a higher IQ than 95 percent of the population had in 1900.
