Is that high? I was under the impression that that was pretty decent ratio.

My mortgage is about 16.5% of our gross.

I mean you can mock the legitimate c
But living in an urban utopia isn’t a necessity. You might (gasp) have to live in a rural or semi-rural area hours away from the nearest city.

Nice to hear revisionist history from a delusional millennial. I think you're talking about the 50s or earlier.

What are you even arguing? Its pretty clear wages have not increased proportionally to practically every other expense (Mortgage, utility, groceries etc)

Buy a house in the suburbs and start your own business.

Your mindset is programmed to live a lifestyle that won’t get you ahead. You need to change that.

Stop playing video games and making excuses as to why shite is hard. If you never put yourself out there you’ll be forty in your apartment alone playing fricking video games.

Are things tougher today for young professionals? Yes. That said, I have seem a large majority of them feel that as they graduate and start their first or second jobs out of college that their desire to be successful ASAP and that means having a 2000+ house with media room, hardwood floors, and drive a 50K vehicle. In other words, they want to get as fast as they can all of the material items that it took their parents decades to acquire and get to. My first home after being out of school and living in apts and town houses was 1300 sqft. Yes, I too wanted the big house, country club membership, etc. but I knew it would take 10-15 years or more to get there. Now I have the income to get the CC Membership, and my wife and I have decided to downsize and build on land we bought from family. I would prefer a good tractor or siide by side to a Mercedes, Range Rover, or BMW

30 year old here, basically debt free aside from mortgage. Bought my house in late 2020 at the peak of the low interest rates, even if it cost me my entire savings at the time. Best decision I ever made.

I credit a lot of my situation to deciding to go to Nicholls over LSU and graduating with no student loans. It was a more boring college experience, but I ended up with the same job as a lot of LSU grads. Starting out life behind the 8 ball is unfortunately why so many of my friends are still renting.

I don’t come from money either, grew up in a single income household. My dad was a welder. Just gotta take life very seriously a lot sooner than most are willing to.

I’m 31 and can’t complain. Own a house, bought a lot on the river to build on, raising kids, saving over 20% of my take-home, and career has been going great. Might start getting into rental properties soon. Only gripe is that I have a high stress/long hours job, but that’s just how it goes to have nice shite.

start a career, put money into your retirement now. The system is built to hold you back. Be patient and break it.

I would like to have a serious conversation about retirement. Is it actually beneficial going forward to put a lot away for that? Seems like a waste in the long run.

It depends how much of a burden you'd like to be on your adult kids.
