I'm 34 as well and in the same boat. Took a job out of college in a field related to my major, but it was also in a very poor part of the country. The cheap cost of living help to stretch my salary, but I lived well within my means, saved early, paid off debt fast as possible etc. As jobs changed and salaries increased I stayed this course and we're sitting well. Until it all comes crashing down in 24.

Perfect time to have this thread. Just got my homeowners renewal and it’s going to be >10k next year. It has doubled in 2 years and more than tripled in 3 years. Even if my house was paid off, (it’s not bc I have 2.75% interest) I’ll be playing close to $20,000 per year just in insurance and property taxes. Talk about a kick in the balls.

Eta: also lol at the video games inclusion. Easily one of the cheapest entertainment options out there.
