Just about every dip shite in that photo has his gun aimed up to, when that is only necessary when you are prepared to shoot and kill. Not walking around the city.

Right. Now Gomer Pyle has an automatic rifle and a Badge.

So, for those who wave the "militarization of police" flag, what is the solution? Eliminate all police? Eliminate tactical units? Make tactical units wear regular uniforms and carry handguns only? No heavy vests or rifles? What do the people want?

How about we use "SWAT" raids for actual violent situations and not simply for every drug warrant?

How about we have police accountable for damages caused by bad information, error and carelessness?

How about not utilizing middle of the night no knock raids for petty drug dealers?

They have had that for years-the two-way radio.

It's gotten way out of hand and we need to shut it down.

Look, if you give me a Ferrari to park in my garage, sooner or later, I'm gonna take it to the track.

Large groups have shown at times they will want to fck things up with powerful weapons and explosives. The police need to be able to battle back. This ain't 1955 Mayberry we are living in any longer.

Maybe not in New Orleans or Chicago, but crime for the rest of the country is going down.

How about we end the "war on drugs"

Require all police to have cameras equipped.
Actually teach them the laws.
Not keep people who are "too smart" out of the forces.

why does the guy to the far right have a paintball gun?

It is a pepperball gun. Shoots paintballs filled with pepper powder. Useful for crowds but can be misused. One killed a co-ed a few years back at one of those "my team won the Championship so we are going to go flip some cars over" celebrations. Officer tried to shoot her off a lamp pole she had climbed and ball went through her temple.

Should we just go back to this?

Crime is actually trending down in both cities over the last 10 years or so.

Raise the pay
Go after educated people
Put cameras on every officer

Seems pretty simple. Instead we're equipping every small down department with equipment necessary to battle ISIS.

LEGIT. I completely agree with everything you said here. If I were Chief of a department, and I can't see how they wouldn't implement these rules if for nothing other than job survival, I would hand those policies down on day one of my tenure.

That's scary to think about considering Chicago is a war zone.

I would be all for legalizing drugs. The war on drugs is the biggest travesty of our time.

They are citizens with rights. Regardless of how they act.

There is a reason it is against our Consitution to have our army patrolling our streets.

Looks like I was a little off about "10 years," but you get the idea. I believe there was a spike in 2012 that caused a lot of the media hysteria about the "war" in Chicago.

I'm not trying to deny that Chicago has a serious crime problem, btw.

That video is ridiculous.

However, my problem lies more with the no-knock raids for small amounts of drugs and whatnot, checkpoints, and the general "us vs them" mentality.

Agreed, they have gotten way over-used.
