So does the OP still have any questions on why arming the police force with military equipment, most of which aren't trained in it, is a really bad idea?

You protect us? What a joke I was a states witness and the response to me about protection was get a ccw because we(police)won't get there in time.
Awesome thanks I put away a criminal for you and your response to me was to arm myself. Well thanks for the advice only people that can protect you is you.

I am more against the cost of all that unneeded gear, especially considering the lowered crime rate.

And those free MRAPs?

Let me give you a free Lear jet. You'll go broke maintaining it.

Veterans are great. I'll hire one every chance I get.

They usually have a great work ethic and are more mature than their age, if that makes sense.

Honestly, this is so far easily the photo of the fricking year. It tells you everything you need to know about the militarization of the police, complete with a "frick the police" on the side of the mailbox.

Was answered earlier in the thread.

Another point could be made about that picture.

This paragraph completely summarizes why the cops suck and think of themselves as above the law. We're not much different than terrorists? You see your own fellow citizens. I hate to inform you, but are supposed to work me and every single citizen, because I pay for you. If you're a cop, for god's sake turn your badge in if you have any dignity.

That is really the crux of my question. Are people just getting hung up on the looks or is there a legitimate complaint? I will be the first to say that I laugh my arse off every time I see an urban team standing on a street corner in camouflage. As a comedian said some years back, "shouldn't there uniforms have pictures of brick walls, cars and broken windows on them?" BTW, not the police. Just legitimately curious. But it is telling that I immediately get attacked by the hard core cop haters. Don't have an answer, attack the messenger.

You are wrong. It is purely about the culture that it creates. It enables cops to think they are badasses and it turns them into instigators. They are soley here to protect and serve the people. Not dress up in digital camo and boots to do a fricking no-knock raid on a home of a marijuana dealer. We havent even gotten onto where the funds are coming from to supply these tacticool weapons. To summarize, it will always be a bad thing when the below average students from high school are the only ones that want to take on a low paying job such as law enforcement soley for the reason of being able to live out their fantasies of being Billy Badass in Rainbox Six on the taxpayers dime.

About what? I didn't say anything. I did ask a few questions. Are questions now right or wrong?

There might be some substance to this statement. So your argument is that the way you dress effects the way you act? So women that dress slutty deserve to be raped because they wanted it? If a guy wears pink, what does that mean? I still maintain that, while there may be an issue with tactics and mindset, the way you are dressed or equipped (as far as safety gear) shouldn't be what you blame. Do you blame the gun that was used in a murder or the person pulling the trigger?

I agreee that this is a legitimate area of concern.

AND you completely lose all of the ground you picked up with your earlier reasoned comments by allowing your obvious bias to come out. Do you really think that every police officer fits this stereotype? I bet you would shite a brick if a police officer came on here and stereotyped young African American males who listen to rap music as "drug dealing thugs." AND you would be 100% justified in your outrage. Yet, you expect the "us against them" mentality of police to go away when you so freely denigrate and stereotype them.

And in response I have heard people call for "national standards" for all local PD's. The flip side of this is you end up paying more taxes for those higher standards (who wants that?) and the specter of a National Police Force becomes a reality.

I, for one, want nothing to do with a Federal Police Force. Bad things happen when you turn local matters over to Big Brother.

Confession:

The first time I saw "FTP" spray painted on an overturned police car, I wondered why people were protesting against File Transfer Protocol.

yep, nothing concerning about a bunch of $9hr cops getting to play Seal Team 6 with weapons and armor they don't know how to handle.

They are trained on all the weapons they use. No need for our police officers to keep up with the criminals. People always complain about the police until they need them for something. How about we not put ourselves in situations that could cause you to be "beat" or "shot" by the police. I personally would not want there job and respect the fact that they deal with the scum of society day in and day out.

You are wasting your time if you are expecting reasonable conversation on this topic here. There is far too much police hate here. Often the ones that rush to these topics have have too much personal bias and the ones that don't just get tired of beating their heads against the wall trying to reason with them.

Hell, they came out of the woodwork aggressively to you for posing the question.
